Traveling Beijing / China

Traveling to Beijing, China soon. Last time I've been there was... over 20 years ago. I loved it then and there's no reason I shouldn't now. But since so much has changed, I'm preparing for a kind of shock - or at least some very strong impact.

Any hot takes, tips, things to do, pay attention to?

For example: Which esim should one use? Are there some esims with unrestricted access to foreign resources? If not, would MulladVPN be a good choice? And what about payment via app?

Do you think an Interrail trip through 8 countries in 21 days would be enjoyable?

So me and some friends are currently planning a trip through Europe. Nothing is really set in stone yet, our first question is if we want to do a roadtrip with a camper-van or an Interrail trip.

I guess the advantage of a train would be, that it would be a lot more enjoyable to cover larger distances than with a camper. I thought, maybe it would be really cool, if we did like a larger tour through Europe, so I researched a bit and planned a hypothetical trip through Germany (where we live) to Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and back to Germany.

That sounds like a lot, but with the train routes, I looked up it would be doable with only 9 travel days, 4 of which would take the whole day (10-12 hours) and 5 of which would only take half a day (4-6 hours). I thought, that could be quite reasonable and it would be a great adventure type trip.

Do you think that could be cool, or would it get exhausting to quick?

What's your travel story?

I just got back from an international trip and I'm already itching to get back out on the road. I'm also fighting jet lag and looking for inspiration for the next trip. Have any good stories to share?

I'll start.. I just got home after a visit to Korea and was surprised to have the best Croque Madame of my life in a small hanok village in Seoul. Better than Paris or any other I've tried.

Transatlantic Repositioning 14 days Cruise: Expectations vs. Reality

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/46266694

In the world of Instagram / YouTube influencers, aggressive promotions and hidden ads it is hard not to have false expectations.

The reality of cruise was different: some mediocre things were oversold, and others that are trully enjoyable were never mentioned. Some minor problems were exaggerated by Temu sellers, others, like squicking cabin, were missing.

We decided to put together expectations vs reality to counter false expectations.
