Recommendation: Pokémon Clover

cross-posted from: https://sh.itjust.works/post/25281865

Pokémon Clover is a ROM Hack of Pokémon Fire Red with two new regions, Fochun and the Ebin Isles, as well as 386 original fakemon. The hack is high quality with good fakemon designs and my recommendation if you want to try something a bit different/weird.

::: spoiler Tap for spoiler The main point of Clover is to be both a parody of 4chan’s imageboard culture as well as a parody of Pokémon as a whole. It thus contains themes and language not suited for the faint of heart :::

Does anyone know some good Pokemon ROM hacks that stay vanilla but have quality of life additions and edits?

The video I linked to this post is titled How I Hacked Pokémon Emerald to make Pokémon walk with you. It's quite interesting if you are into ROM hacking and it's one of the things that made me think of this.

I just started getting back into Pokemon after playing a bit of Yellow and Crystal when I was a kid and I am wondering what are some Pokemon ROM hacks that add QoL features? Maybe some that improve the overall flow of game play or add little things to make the game more fun?

I mentioned staying vanilla because I am not looking for fake Pokemon or something radically different like Pokemon Snakewood for example. Back ported Pokémon would be neat though.

I saw some lists online but some were dated or didn't focus on what I am looking for.

ROM Hacks with disabled people?

This is an odd question, but I recently just realized Pokemon has very little disabled representation. I find it especially odd because Pokemon has so many amazing chances for representation, and they love the small details showing people's relationship with their pokemon. Like people who are wheelchair bound could have Machamps to help carry them up the stairs. Or someone who is hard of hearing having a Chatot relay what other people say. Or having an Espeon as a seeing eye pokemon and an emotional support. I'm curious if anybody has decided to include any of these sorts of ideas into a ROM hack.

community events!

I'm pretty new to Lemmy, migrating from Reddit and I pretty much only care about the Pokemon community anyways lol. As we get more followers to the community, I think we should look into hosting certain community events and megathreads for ease of access and info like the Pokemon subreddit did. I'm unsure of how things work here; and if the same types of things are possible. But it would help establish our foothold as a community and bring value towards us for outsiders! I would love to create a weekly discussion/questions thread, a competitive information megathread, and look into the possibilities of stuff like Shiny Sundays again! I'm really looking forward to the growth of the community and to meet new trainers!

Resource: pret, the team who is decompiling every Pokémon game

https://github.com/pret

If you want to start romhacking, or are just curious about how the games were put together, there is no better time than now. Thanks to the efforts of pret and the open source community, every mainline Pokémon game up to Emerald has been decompiled.

I mean most members here were probably aware of these, but I thought it would be helpful for anyone who didn't know these existed

I think this community could serve as a great repository for resources on romhacking. If only because much information on romhacking is not very easily searchable, or old, or trapped in forums. Surfacing that info here would add value to this community. And if the instance goes down, at least federated instances will still have the info.

My collection of digitized Pokemon game guides and roms

So this is isn't really fully related to Pokémon ROM hacks but there are a ton of GEN 3 rom hacks in this dump.

This is mainly a way of me sharing my Pokémon base game guides.

Each game is organized by folder and each folder has the rom files for the game as well as a pdf for the game guide.

Some of these game guides are increasingly harder to find now and were somewhat difficult for me to find.

There are also a ton of gen 3 rom hacks in the folder GBA hacks.

Enjoy!
