Community Purpose

I’ve yearned for a venue where we could speak openly about what’s happening in one of the world’s most contentious regions. My background is German, so you can probably anticipate where the topic ends up when I bring up Israeli politics. That has gotten old for me, and I won’t put up with it in any of the conversations going on here. My people committed terrible crimes, and ever since then, we have been working to make amends. I’ve already seen a description of the Holocaust on Wikipedia that, depending on how you define it, could relate to the deaths of anywhere between 2 million and 30 million people. Never in my life will I debate about math. It doesn’t matter to me if it was 100 or 100 million. It was wrong to murder people, and it shouldn’t happen again anywhere. Story over.

This community must continue to be a place for open discussions; however, I would prefer not to intervene harshly in any conversations that get improper. Unlike the Palestine community on Lemmygrad, this community is different. I won’t favor one side over the others. I like having spirited talks, which is why I started this community. Such talks ought to be educational rather than propagandistic or meant to belittle. I hope to learn more about the situation and hope others do as well.

I expect heated discussions. After all, it wouldn’t be a proper Irish wedding without a small brawl or two. As long as the participants can agree afterward that the choice of whiskey was good, and a good time was had by all.

Exposing the DISTURBING ISRAELI Lobby inside Australia | Ex-Foreign Minister Bob Carr

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/49303694

In this exclusive interview, former Australian Foreign Minister, the Hon. Bob Carr reveals the deep underlying influence of the Israeli lobby in Australian politics – and how it has long shaped Canberra’s stance on Israel–Palestine.

Once a co-founder of the Labor Friends of Israel with Bob Hawke in 1977, Carr has undergone a dramatic transformation – from being hailed in Tel Aviv as an “honourable gentile” to now becoming one of the loudest critics of Israel’s brutality in Gaza.

Ex-CIA Officer: Israel Spies on US, Has 187 Agents Inside, Knew About 9/11 & Let It Happen

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/49280897

Former CIA officer John Kuryaku exposes Israel's massive espionage against the US—nearly 187 spies identified by the FBI stealing nuclear and F-35 secrets. He alleges Israel had foreknowledge of 9/11 but withheld warnings, expecting US retaliation to benefit Israeli strategic interests. Kuryaku warns the CIA and Pentagon are now more aligned with Israeli interests than American sovereignty, with Israeli personnel being embedded directly into US military command under new NDAA provisions. He calls this a political power shift driven by AIPAC lobbying. He also condemns the extrajudicial killing of US citizen Anwar al-Awlaki and his 8-year-old daughter as unconstitutional. The interview suggests US policy is increasingly "occupied" by foreign influence, eroding democracy and strategic autonomy.

Israel’s Systematic War on the Womb

At Gate 8 of Ercan Airport — the main hub of Turkish-controlled northern Cyprus, a territory recognized by no government except Ankara — a 24-year-old Israeli citizen is stopped moments before boarding a flight to Mexico via Istanbul. Inside his luggage: a specialized cryogenic transport container. Inside the container: four human embryos, preserved in four separate test tubes, sealed under nitrogen. The label on the container reads: “Life Parcel.”

Israel is killing Palestinian babies before they are born. Not as a figure of speech. In the literal, biological, measurable sense: in the wombs of their mothers, in the nitrogen tanks of the fertility clinic a single Israeli shell obliterated in December 2023, on operating tables where cesarean sections are performed without anesthesia because the blockade has eliminated the anesthesia, in the incubators Israeli forces smashed when they raided the Kamal Adwan Hospital neonatal unit. The United Nations Commission of Inquiry reviewed the evidence. The Rome Statute does not hesitate to define it. The Genocide Convention of 1948 does not hesitate to classify it. The only entities that hesitate are the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, and France — who have decided, with full information, that Palestinian children, even unborn Palestinian children, do not rise to the level of a crisis requiring a change of policy. This text will name what they will not name.

Its Bisan From Gaza, This Is Life After 'Ceasefire'

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.world/post/46682687

Without people like this there would literally be no journalism left.

Seven months after the so-called ceasefire, people in Gaza say the war has not ended. Bisan Owda reports from Gaza, where bombings continue, large parts of the territory remain inaccessible and families are still living in tents on top of the rubble of their homes.

“They say the war ended. But it didn’t.” With children walking to school under fire and people struggling to access water and basic needs, daily life is still shaped by uncertainty and loss. At the edge of it all, the sea remains one of the few places where people can gather to find a moment of calm.

“They cannot destroy the sea.”
