Garmin pulling info from the new Google Health?

So I've been on a weight loss journey recently. For consistency I weigh myself at the same time in the mornings, after using the restroom but before eating. My scale is a Fitbit Aria, so for months I've just been manually logging weight in my Garmin Connect app and my Aria syncs to Google on its own and I don't really think about it. Yesterday, I weighed myself in the afternoon, knowing it was going to be an oddball and not planning on logging it in Garmin. Today I noticed it had that weight in Connect though! I know unequivocally I did not enter it, so Garmin must now be pulling data from the new Google Health app. Has anyone else seen anything pull across like this? It's nice to see they may be opening up syncing on some of these things!

Dear all,

Dear all,

I'd like to buy a dash cam for my car. I like X110 and X210 but X210 is much more expensive.

I selected these ones mainly because they have a USB power cable I could connect to the USB-C socket on my rearview mirror. I don't want to connect the dash cam to the battery or the fuse box.

The only reason I need a dash cam is having a video in case of accident. I'm not interested in good quality videos to post on social media but I'm interested in having the possibility of reading a car plate, for instance.

I'm not interested in what could happen when my car is parked as it's parked most of time in quiet areas.

This being said, do you think X210 is a better choice?

Do you think the suction cup is as efficient as the adhesive installation? I don't like the idea of spoiling the windscreen.

Thanks for your replies.

Ciao,
Max

Garmin watch - updates without connecting to the Internet “offline”

cross-posted from: https://lemmy.ml/post/27209720

I bought a Garmin Forerunner 255 watch that I want to use only with Gadgetbridge. There is an old software version on the watch and I want to update it and I don't want to connect it with Garmin Connect or Garmin Express app?

I have looked for the possibility to do an “offline” update but have not found it. Maybe the community will help?

How old is your device?

I still regularly hike and backpack with a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx from I think 2006. Anyone else still using an ancient device?

It takes AA batteries which is great because I can just pack extra batteries. It seems pretty rugged given that I haven't broken it during the past nearly 20 years of outdoor activities.

The 2GB max storage is very limiting and I have to keep a specific Mini USB cord around to transfer data to and from my PC but the thing keeps chugging along without complaining.

I can't say I'm not tempted to get a smartwatch with mapping capabilities. My wife has a Venu of some sort and it's very nice. I'm also eyeing other Garmin handhelds that combine satellite messaging and mapping capabilities because we currently bring a separate InReach device for SOS and it would be great to combine two devices into one.

Pace alert while swimming

Hi there.

I have a Garmin Swim 2 (for five years now) and it's starting get a little rusty, mostly on the battery side. I have to charge it every day now.

Garmin Venu 3 was an option, but lacks a must have feature: pace alert while swimming.

does any of you have Fenix 7 or Fenix 8?

does anybody knows if other brands have this feature?

Looking at forerunner 165

Hey everyone, I'm looking at getting the forerunner 165 due to it being entry level and it has the features I want. One piece of info I would like clarification on is: do any of the advertised features require a subscription? It is an absolute deal breaker for me if they advertise all these features but don't mention they are behind a subscription that I won't know about until I'm setting up the watch.

Thanks!

Is it worth getting a Fenix 7 now?

I already have a Venu Sq, and I'm looking to upgrade. My wife has a Fenix 7S and loves it, and it has some features I would like.

The Fenix 8 is now obviously out, but it's a) very expensive, b) bigger than a 7S (I have very small wrists), and c) has a microphone. I try to avoid devices with microphones, since I don't completely trust that they can't be somehow used for evil. And although I do scuba dive, I already have a Mares dive computer, so the dive functionality on the Garmin isn't quite as appealing.

I get a good deal on Garmin devices through work, and people are selling lots of used Fenix 7 watches, so I'm interested in using this as a chance to get one. But I'm a bit afraid that they'll stop getting any updates or anything soon.

How long do we think the 7 will keep getting updates? Or what's my best path forward here?

Garmin HRM Pro Plus + Forerunner Watch & Garmin Connect

Edit: So I had class today, syncing it to my watch worked exactly as described, so yay. (JIC anybody else was curious)

So, this is a silly special case, I can't wear my watch during karate class, so I bought the HRM to sync with Garmin Connect, but it didn't seem to sync to the workout, I read online that it has to sync to the watch, so I just connected it to my watch, will this allow for recording my HR and then sync to Connect, or is there a special way to get it to sync with the workout?

When are new smartwatches announced?

Hi all! I have a Venue Sq, and I've been thinking of purchasing a new watch for quite some time. I've been mostly leaning towards a Fenix 7, since it has some more sport features, and has no microphone (the Venue 3 has a microphone, which I wouldn't use and don't really trust).

However, the Fenix 7 was announced in January 2022, and I'm wondering if there will be either Fenix 8 or at least a discount on the Fenix 7 sometime soon, so I'm hesitant to buy one now.

When are new watches usually announced? Any thoughts on whether it makes sense to wait?
