FFXIII - Help with chapter 11 boss (potential spoilers inside)
I'm returning to my XIII playthrough after suspending it for a few months and I just went through most of chapter 11.
I struggled a bit fighting against the tower boss, Dahaka, but managed to beat it after a few attempts, trying different characters.
Now I'm at Barthandelus and I'm completely stuck.
I started the attempts with the same party that worked for me against Dahaka, using Lightning, Fang and Sazh, which seems strong (in terms of DPS), but I can't keep up with the healing.
I tried switching out Sazh for Vanille and Hope, with which I can survive longer, but do almost no damage (I think I usually do less than 1/4 of the boss hp) and end up wiping at an AoE.
My current strategy is to try applying debuffs (and buffs, when with Sazh and Hope) at the start, then immediately into trying to break with rav, com, rav and then trying to damage with com,com,rav/med. I switch into med, sen, med when low on hp (which is were i usually lose). Then restart when the boss clears the debuffs.
I can't understand what I'm doing wrong, could someone help?
PS: in my latest attempt with Lightning, Fang and Hope I got it to half HP but died to the enrage. My strategy here was keeping Fang in sen for as long as possible and switching her and Light to com only after increasing the counter. (anything else I try to be more aggressive gets me killed by the AoE)
PPS: something I've been trying now is getting the percentage as high as I can (500-600%), debuffing and then attacking. It's really inconsistent due to the rng (both for resistance and the boss just randomly interrupting), but when it works it deals a lot of damage.
PPPS: trying again a day later, probably another 10 attempts, still no progress. I changed my setup to be more aggressive, trying different accessories to increase HP a bit to reduce the need for healing (resist accessories also seem kinda useless due to the low proc rate?), but the best I could do was getting to 25% HP using fortisol at the start for haste. My current startegy is to hope sabs inflict imperil at the start and for every apoptosis, which boosts stagger rate by a lot, but I still can't keep up with the healing (or healing makes me waste the stagger) and end up getting killed by thanatosian laughter.
Final edit: I did it! I'm not even sure exactly how, the battle took like 20 minutes. I went back to having a sentinel for most of the paradigms and staying in green health even if it meant dropping out of stagger before it ended. To deal damage I just had com, com, med, which is probably why it took so long. I still had to use a fortisol to go through the first half tho, otherwise I'm sure I'd have hit the enrage.
