Participating in an Elon ran version of Reddit sounds just as fun as being launched into the sun would be

90

Come on, give the sun more credit, atleast it'll be beautiful to look at for a while!

Absolutely. Beyond shit management, I've never seen someone so desperately in love with meme culture who absolutely does not understand humor on any level.

4

We should test how fun it would be to be launched in the sun, with Elon serving as the test subject.

the last place I would want to chat would be with a twitter group

58

The kind of people still left on Twitter are not the people I want to be sharing a reddit-like community with

It warms my heart that Twitter spent millions developing a product that will never take off ❤️

Google+ could have been amazing. It did so much right compared to the others.

No activity whatsoever on it though

9

As someone who moderated several G+ communities, it had plenty of activity - spam. For whatever reason Google's own filters didn't catch it well and it'd all go to the mods. Also it didn't have much discussion. Just sharing links and reacting. Got boring real fast.

3

Wouldn't be Elon's first time.

I mean I guess they technically take off, there's just the aftermath ...

Haha and to think Spez tried to suck Musk's dick a week ago during one of his interviews.

As if the people fleeing reddit's API lockdown would have any interest in this.

39

Most of the people fleeing Reddit are the same people who shit on Musk in r/facepalm.

Yeah, definitely not going to take off with the leaving Reddit crowd. Might attract current Twitter users through shudders

I love how all mainstream platforms keep mimicking each other to become exact copies of one another. I wonder if there was a way for platforms to collaborate with each other and interconnect somehow rather than duplicating efforts by copying all features from all other platforms? 🤔

36

But if we don’t create a walled garden then how can we lock in users and maximize our profits???

Some sort of protocol to publish activity?

We’ll call it Humongo DBHTML (short for Data Based Hypertext-based Terminator Machine Language), and it can allow Planet Net to plan its planet plans for fixing all the utopia bugs.

Twitter communities have been around a good while. As in, I even wrote a search app that found new communities as people created them, and people used my app (and other apps) for about a year or so, and then eventually Twitter added that functionality themselves, so I deprecated my app, and then about year or so later, Elon bought Twitter and communities died from lack of use/ support.

In other words, this was around for a while before Elon.

29

As if the average reddit user would fall for this, Twitter is awful.

22

I guess if you were looking for a platform that is run by a large man child, is somehow on shakier ground than Reddit, and will suck then this is good news?

16

Twitter is a shitty platform especially after it was taken by Elon. No way I'm going there for community-based discussions.

16

Oh now this is fascinating. Especially after spez has been sucking Musty’s dick. He is such a pick-me.

I’m about to grab all kinds of gourmet popcorn to watch the train wrecks coming from these CEOs.

16

And on the same day when they fucked up their infrastructure so badly that they had to rate-limit all users. Yeah, okay Elon, you can host my community for me.

15

So let me get this straight. Spez makes Elon-inspired changes to Reddit. Spez fucks up his own platform, and then Elon sucks up what leftovers he can?

15

If elmo and spez want to cannibalize each other's platforms and burn them to the ground, I'll happily sit by and watch. I got my popcorn. 🍿

15

I always point to TikTok/IG Stories/Facebook Stories/Snapchat Stories/Twitter Fleets as my favorite example of the glorious innovation of capitalism

3

If you go for this your dumber than the average bear. Lest we forget, Twitter pioneered screwing over third party devs, twice! Once back in 2012 and then more recently

11

Me either, but it's mostly because I never really figured out how to follow the thread of a discussion on there.

It always felt like any reply tweet would just disconnect from the OP and go off on an unrelated tangent and the initial discussion was lost.

Shitty platform IMO. Not sure how it ever got so big.

I'm pretty sure this had launched a bit earlier, but yeah, pretty convenient timing.

I didn’t notice till today, might’ve been a rollout

6

I'm part of the F-Zero Twitter community and the most action it gets is from bots that somehow break into the invite only community. (Thanks Elon)

It's a cool idea but suffers from the same kind of insulation of discord, which end up running counter to the openness twitter got popular for.

8

Right now, they can't even maintain their Infrastructure because Elon Musk fired more than half of the employees, how will they be able to maintain this?

7

As much as I hate twitter this is actually a pretty brilliant idea. I’m not going to use it but I understand the business decision. What would make it even better is if they also announced an open API to use it. But they already cut that thread.

6

Also on the same day that they block people from viewing tweets without logging in. No thanks.

Communities have been part of Twitter for some time, but they haven't pushed it much

I haven’t seen it in my bottom bar till now, I just noticed it looked like there were more icons than before and saw this

1

Communities have existed for a while now though, it's not new. It's just been kinda hidden in the UI for quite a few months now. I rarely ever use the feature.

3

Don’t think this will be successful. They might have a large userbase but even spaces didn’t really took of midterm/longterm

3

Too bad they suck just as bad, considering, and stopped people without a user account from traversing the site. Bye Mark, Elon and Spez. You will not be missed!

2

I think they just did it ahead of time. You know, die on your schedule not reddit's

3

Probably testing, cuz I just saw it today after noticing my bottom bar was bigger and I’m on iOS
