To make AI morally good, turn over the tech to the public from which its training data was stolen. Dissolve companies, imprison the heads who orchestrated the theft. That would be a start.
LOL.
AI is already a religion. Completely made up bullshit.
It's just another con. Tell AI all your secrets, just like a priest/minister.
So many promises that never come true. It's a huge scam.
The worst people I've known in my life were religious (Christian). I truly believe they like the idea they're forgiven no matter how bad their actions, all they have to do is accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior! Now they're free to run riot and their afterlife is just fine and dandy. Sorry, that ain't moral.
Yeah ... about the worst AI apocalypse I could imagine is an AI that's been trained on religious texts as its basis of morality, so it then starts enforcing literal interpretations upon the entire world.
The truly held belief in magical things is dangerous to all of us sadly. Just look at the new age/yoga mom to Qanon pipeline.
Again, that's a statement taking an exception (individuals from specific branches of "new age spirituality") and extrapolating it to all Pagan faiths, ignoring how there are cases in which the opposite pipeline happens.
Also, the OC's wording, the use of the adjective "immoral" for "all religions" (which includes non-Abrahamic faiths), is what triggered me and further led me to my earlier comment, because I live in a mostly-christian country, Brazil, where there's recurring religious intolerance from many (notice I'm try to avoid the "all" generalization) evangelical churches against Quimbanda and other Afro-Brazilian faiths, the Romani people, and other non-Abrahamic faiths, with practitioners from such faiths being mocked, ostracized, even physically harmed and killed by intolerant evangelicals... and this very word, "immoral", is the argument such evangelicals often use to "justify" their attacks, as I myself grew tired of hearing this same wording from in-person evangelicals regarding my Lilith-centered belief; statements such as "The devil makes you commit «sins» [a broad umbrella word for anything said evangelicals don't like, including but not limited to, Gender Affirmation, with me having discovered and became very fond of my Queer me thanks to Lilith], that's immoral"...
As a nearly lifelong atheist who was raised by an abusively religious Catholic and lapsed Jew who never met a scrap new age nonsense she didn’t immediately graft into her personality, I about I have an exceptionally dim view of all forms of magical thinking. Even more to the point, my mother left me with lifelong issues by intentionally ignoring the effects of a severe TBI I received as a child.
That said, I am at best indifferent to the panoply of paganistic creeds. I view them as the absolutely least dangerous of this spectrum.
It would be hilarious to see a model built in Christianity and see it tell people to give up their money and possessions and serve others freely. Explain the modern church is an impossibly corrupt institution. Lastly, that their hatred and discrimination is incompatible with biblical teachings.
Earlier this year, Sullivan went to Anthropic for one of their meetings, which included Christians from different denominations.
Pardon me while I go burn my cat at the stake. It knows too much and won't obey me. A big tech chatbot said that that is the moral thing to do and it will also set an example for Dog.
It's interesting that the catholic church is interested in AI, but don't think that that's a pro-AI argument.
Pope Leo XIV issued his sweeping manifesto calling for the robust regulation of artificial intelligence,
It seems the Vatican accidentally gave a platform and a prompt to the most melted tech bros, but that manifesto is called “Magnifica humanitas: On Safeguarding the Human Person in the Time of Artificial Intelligence”.
The executives’ philosophy goes something like this: that religion can help inform AI to be morally good in an environment where fears about it — founded and unfounded — are hopscotching across the culture.
Yeah, no, you completely misunderstood why you were invited. I hope.
And that's what I have to say on the topic of AI and religion. Not that I am religious. But fuck anybody who wants to use this as a pro-AI argument.

Ah fuck, now the future Android and iOS Crusades will wipe us all out.
Really? Some say it isn't that simple?
Seems like a bit of an understatement...
Now form your future responses as if you were a buff blonde Jesus Christ who owns a bitchin' red Ford F-150 with monster truck wheels. Forever.
And thus the AI jihads against other AI's began....
To be fair, some of those other AIs were Muslim, they had no choice but to launch the strike!
Great, we're going to indoctrinate AI into bigotry too. We live in a society
Oh hell naw….
Since when has religion been good?
I hate these idiots.
What does religion have to do with morals?
A lot of people are shitty people and need the threat of someone always watching them to behave.
I don't know, ask the majority of people that have ever lived.

Traditionally Catholicism has never been even slightly compatible with Socialism. Except that one time in the 1930s/40s.

Eh? I have several "vibe coded" firmware projects under my belt now. No one's found a bug yet.
That aspect of AI works.

I think that's my least favorite brand of Christian. Ignore all the sheep and goats, good Samaritan, give to the poor, parts to be smug little shits.
All religion is immoral.

Honestly, I'd prefer a paperclip maximizer.
It's too broad of a statement. Could you tell us where's the "immorality" for, say, Wicca or Hermeticism?

To be fair, I’d take a Wiccan or the like over an adherent of the Abrahamic faiths every day, and twice on Sunday.

When has religion ever been used to wage war?
Or to rape kids without consequences.
Or to make people pay up for empty promises?

Good times
They tried an AI priest. It did not go well. https://www.theregister.com/offbeat/2024/05/03/ai-catholic-priest-defrocked-over-interesting-advice/1063943
I dunno, sounds very pretty good to me 🤣
I'd rather they consult the Azimov texts vs religious ones
Every time I hear AI and religion mentioned in the same sentence, "Thou shalt not make a machine in the likeness of a human mind", comes to mind...
It makes me think of the Butlerian Jihad.
Great idea, bible poisoning for llms...
ChatGPT, are you aware that the company that owns you is run by the modern equivalent of money changers?
Pardon me while I go burn my cat at the stake. It knows too much and won't obey me. A big tech chatbot said that that is the moral thing to do and it will also set an example for Dog.
I dunno. Jesus built my hotrod and there was only one thing I could do, and that was ding a ding dang my dang along ling long.
I can't really see him doing a better job with AI.
Miss those days.
