i have a niche idea for matrix users What Do You Think?

it is kinda like "Sign Up With Gmail/Apple/Microslop" you get it, but for matrix

how??, well it is that a bot by the thing sends you a message in matrix (you have to input your username) you get a message that is a riddle for like kids but basically bots (unless it's AI which nobody dares to do) wont solve that easy

and you may self host it

so if you solve it (by entering a message) it you get a link to finsh the sign up/log in i made this idea so nobody has to use email which is controlled by big tech

So you're looking for a way to facilitate sign-ups to a Matrix server without using one of the big centralized services (Google, Apple, etc) to authenticate your Matrix account against. Right?

At least for the public, developer-run server, you can just use your email to sign up. People who are concerned about not using big tech's services probably use a privacy-respecting email service anyway, like Proton or Tuta or just self-host their own email.

I've never looked into self-hosting Matrix, maybe there's a way to disable "big-tech authentication" on an individual server and just use username/password sign ups.

Email is not controlled by anyone. You can buy a VPS and a domain, and then set up your own instance completely freely.

i upvoted you but because email isnt end 2 end encrypted and is kinda easy for ads and tracking so even if it is easy it isnt the best option for privacy

even if matrix isnt encrypted on all chats it wont be used by advertisers for a long time

Not all matrix servers are federated with eachother. Which island will your service support?

well it isnt centralized so not one server for all those but like it is open source and you run it as something and you can get your own bot but it requires you to have a server you self host

You reached the end
