So its presented in a confusing way but as I understand it, the starlink service "speed" in km/h is the speed at which a vehicle in the ground is moving and able to receive a high speed connection from the satellite network.
By capping it at 100km/h or 62 mph in the EU, Elon Musk is deliberately restricting it to basic civilian uses.
Ukraine is using starlink to control drone interceptors, which move much faster and were automatically being disconnected by starlink once they went above 100km/h
So I think Elon Musk and Donald Trump are traitors to the west and siding with Vladimir Putin in his invasion of a European Country. We must never forget what these people do - they are no friends of Europe or Europeans.
Starshield, not starlink.
Starlink is limited as its a commercial / consumer service.
Starshield is the modified, government owned version of Starlink and is allowed to be used for war purposes like interceptor drones. They fucked with starshield not starlink.
Fucking with starshield is a huge deal and should terrify all allies.
We're not even friends with our next door neighbors.
came here for the units explanation. ty.
There is zero technical reason to suddenly limit the service to vehicles going lower than 161km/h. It is pure political drama, which clearly shows which side Musk and Trump support. Additionally, it has not been the first time[1], Musk suddenly drops Starlink capabilities to the Ukrainian forces. He has done the same for Russia, too. Relying on it for critical missions and infrastructure is a really bad decision made by Ukrainian and Russian officials.

I don't think there really is competition to Starlink right now, so maybe a bad decision they had to make?
That's the current case, but since this debacle various nations have ramped up plans for their own services.
The reason why asynchronous wars are so complicated, is usually because the simpler nation is way quicker in adapting to new threats. They use starlink because they built the weapon systems to use it. Without starlink, other weapon systems would have been developed.
So I agree that currently they have to use starlink. But I also believe they would have been able to fight entirely without it.
