The original M1978 Koksan can reportedly strike targets at ranges of up to roughly 40 kilometers with standard ammunition and as far as 60 kilometers with rocket-assisted shells.

In contrast the NATO M777 towed howitzer has up to 40km range with base bleed ammunition. The ERCA variant of the M777 with a range of 30-70km was "determined to not be viable."

It should probably also be noted that the M777 is a towed piece that weighs literally a tenth of what the self-propelled M-1978 does, they're not really the same sort of equipment besides being howitzers. A more comparable NATO piece would be the PzH 2000

The paladin reaches out to 40km with GPS guided rounds. Looks like 60km is definitely above most other self propelled artillery pieces, but given the low rate of fire and that basically every missile ever out-ranges it and that Ukraine is spending thousands of dollars to slap them out of existence, they don't seem to be game changing.

I think in actual mobile warfare and combined arms tactics they would make quite the splash but not in this WW1 style of war.

range of 30-70km

That's quite the span, lol.

'It might reach twice as far, it might reach less than the original, we're not really sure'

I think it means it’s accurate between those ranges but I like your interpretation better.
