Yeah... Something tells me they're not willing to pay great American salaries: low though they are by first world standards, they're still too high for any self-respecting late-stage capitalist.
Oh no a trillion dollar company has to pay employees more. What will that do to their executive bonuses.
It's not a matter of affordability, it's ceding power to workers. Activision QA had to authorize a strike for living wages last week.
The dividend line must go up.
Their entire internal management structures / 'company culture' are built around having a 'technically not slave' class they can exploit.
They're to tech megacorps as oil is to logistics.
The problem is that these companies would have to re-org back to closer to an old school tech company model, where employees are treated as assets that can be developed and improved.
Mid and upper management would have to get gutted and then the remnant would also have to humble themselves and do a 180 on their approach to basically everything, every project, every team, every goal.
They'd have to actually respect people.
They'll just break instead, their egos wont allow this.
I thought they didn't need skilled employees anymore because AI is replacing all their skilled jobs.
Once again.. Actually, Indians.
To your point, I think this will have the following effects:
Effects it will definitely not have:
They really couldn't do a worse job for Americans if they tried.
It just depends on which "Americans" for whom you're expecting them to do a good job. The effects you're predtwill probably make quarterly Lines Go Up, and therefore are good for a targeted subset of Americans.
They need "prompt engineers" (or as Jon Stewarts calls em, "types-question guys") and they need competent human beings who know what they're doing to fix the shit the machine produces... for now.
Big Tech's bet is that AI becomes good enough to do away with types-question guys and competent people altogether. But we're not there yes. Hence, Indians.
What a confusing time for US tech companies. Like their lover is bipolar.
There's absolutely nothing confusing about US tech companies: they're in cahoots with the fascist regime, hoping to profit bigly by bribing the Dear Leader, and they're getting a small leopard face-eating moment because rolling with fascists is never a winning strategy in the long run.
This phrasing implies a claim that they are in a statement above—where there is no such claim. Your reply is essentially in agreement, while framed as anything but.
Lot of companies missing from that list. Wonder why.
Court case incoming in 3...2...
While I don't have a lot of faith in the SCOTUS, I somehow doubt even Roberts is going to be able to invent an argument which gives the President this sort of control over the H1B program. But, who knows. The Court has been deep-throating that "Unitary Executive" cock pretty hard.
Also:
I'm pretty sure Infosys's and Tata's entire business model is H1B visas and hoping their customers will just revert and do the needful when those two companies' attempts at anything completely shit the bed. A lot of companies are going to be forced to discover that nothing might actually be better than a contract with one of those companies.
Extremely unlikely. All those fuckers stand to lose their juicy government contracts. All it takes is the orange utan - or Pete Kegbreath - to label them a supply chain risk on a whim.
Just give them citizenship, then they'll be skilled American workers instead of skilled foreign workers.
But then you would have to pay them and give them more normal working hours. Then there is no point.
...for about 30 seconds, before being swept up by the gICEstapo and send to rot in a concentration camp or deported to a third world country they've never been to without due process.
