Imagine spending your whole life as a priest and getting cred in the faith and you die in such a way that every single person thinks God had to have killed you for some awful sin. Like, there is automatically an assumption that this guy was touching kids or something.

Like, I'm an atheist, I don't believe that. I think that they should have secured the cross better and he died because of poor maintenance.

But if you're Catholic. There is no way to not read into far too much. Dude will forever be remembered as the guy God dropped a cross on.

You're assuming a coherent world-view there. I don't know how well that pairs with being Catholic in the first place, though.

Nah, the main assumption is that Catholics love considering some event as divine intervention and that human beings love gossip. That whole church is whispering about it from one person to another.

My friend got a lifetime church exemption that way. His parents were dragging him along for Christmas mass. He fainted in the stuffy overcrowded church and had a seizure. He never had to go to church again.

A site that denies access when rejecting "optional" cookies. That's a new one

Healthline does something similar if you reject cookies. They redirect you to a dedicated 'fuck you' page.

If you're quick you can hit stop and keep the popup from loading. Or you can just turn off javascript.

You can also open the html-page, and try removing the lines adding the pop-up. Sometimes they assume (correctly) nobody does that, so they do not even bother to hide the parts.

Good grief. They posted the video. I get that it was live streamed when it happened but reposting it? Just seems bad. People don’t need to see another human die.

Honestly, this has become the standard attitude towards human life from most Christians these days. More people than I realize seem to suspect that he deserved it, just because they can't accept this as a freak accident and think this was a smiting.

And that’s why you don’t just throw away that wall anchor, screw and loop that attaches your furniture or cross to the wall.

I was shocked by that as well. What an illustration into how rotten the world has become. A mainstream news site just casually posting here guys watch the cool way this dude dies live on camera.

Unnecessary, disrespectful, voyeuristic. Like death porn for the masses

That air force guy who died in Texas is getting the same treatment.

They really sang the national anthem, killed a troop on the field, and then played football on the turf still soaked in his blood.

Social media is covered with videos from every angle of his body crumpling into the ground. You could probably stitch them all together into a grotesque 360-degree bullet-time of his death.

Imagine serving in the Air Force for 15 years and then losing your life at the Alamodome, in service to the social media hype cycle.

And to think, we used to have to go to the shady local video store to get stuff like that.

What was it again, what they always say? Oh yes, I remember: God works in mysterious ways.

It's like Christians must have faith, but every church also have a lightening rod.

it was his time. only god knows what to expect next because it's his plan.

evidently his plan includes allowing murderous psychopathic pedophiles to run the world and killing priests in the most ironic ways.

8

That is horrible. For the people that loved him, for the people that witnessed it and especially for the kids that had to watch it.

Put that swing of the cross, the pin point precision of the hit, that is also incredibly funny.

Jesus. Fucking. Christ.

I'm not religious and religious people are messed up, but that is awful.

Maybe God just feels like monkey's pawwin' it once in awhile. Maybe at this instant, the priest was thinking in his head, "God, may I be with you!" God was like, "wish granted."

7

What was it he said that made his god immediately send him?

Surely his followers would see some kind of profound insight into the interpretation of their scripture because of this, right?

In the words of Ecuadorian-born Mike Judge as Monsignor Martinez from Los Dias Y Las Noches de Monsignor Martinez, "Vaya con Dios".

I'd like to be saddened by this, as death suddenly is always sad. That said, this is a Catholic priest. Given the track record, you have to wonder.
