Trump cancels plan to livestream execution after global condemnation

Hasan, who was left paralyzed from the waist down after being shot by law enforcement officers during the shooting at Fort Hood, now uses a wheelchair.

The US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, said last week that the execution of Hasan would be a public event. Hasan’s sentence will be the first military execution in more than 60 years, and would have been the first in US history to be publicly broadcast.

In a statement to the Guardian on Thursday, a spokesperson for the Pentagon said Trump and Hegseth “spoke about the decision to not livestream Hasan’s execution” before Trump’s statement. Hegesth “supports the President’s decision, and they are completely aligned”, they added.

The fact it was considered by government officials shows how much America has fallen under the trump regime.

Trump simply puts in public what other admins would have done covertly. In a sense, he has done more to expose what politics actually is than any other president before him.

Notice I said regime, all Republican officials plus any of the AIPAC democrats voting alongside them are guilty and morally bankrupt as well.

Which other admins would have done this covertly?

LMAO, you're limiting to a single country? Like it wouldn't apply to other countries? Really?

I see that you're trying to weasel out. "Most" "civilized" countries, eh? Username checks out.

Weasel out of what? Yeah America is barbaric as fuck lol. The government shouldn't be able to murder its citizens.

By the way, the original discussion is on American admins, and the fact that every single one of them presided over federal executions, lol. I think you're confused.

1

Yeah what does it matter if they do it or don't? It was on the table, they thougjt it's a great idea.

2

Bold of you to think politicians consider voters peers. Enough voter pressure works sometimes if it's not in the way of a partisan's profits.

Don’t mistake this for trump actually caring, either. He’d love for this to happen, and was probably salivating at the thought of trump media ad revenue, and how he could filter all pay per view money directly into his pockets.

This is only getting walked back because the weasels in congress are legitimately terrified of public opinion right now, since trump is sinking their ship. This is just the GOP frantically bailing against the tide, not because trump himself cares or even acknowledges anything other than his own desires.

Note how effective even a mild rumble from Congress was on this one item.

Fucking sellouts.

This is why public uproar matters right now, more than in many times. Congress holds the purse strings, and they’re scared of losing their cushy jobs with high pay, retirement, the best healthcare, and other perks. They’re listening, not out of a sense of duty, but existential fear.

e: Don’t let .ml users tell you there’s no point and there’s nothing you can do, btw. If it was hopeless, they wouldn’t be trying so hard to demoralise you. Pay attention to the instance and don’t glorify them with engagement; they’re out in force right now.

The real reason IMO is that Trump only recently found out that the guy is in a wheelchair, and even he has the mental capacity to realize that shooting a guy who can't stand on his own is a bad look for the country, regardless of his crimes.

9

I appreciate your theory, but I don’t think trump found out anything or would remotely care. He’s so dementia addled, this guy’s execution was no more than jangly keys for a moment, and he couldn’t even tell you the guy’s name. He doesn’t even know the guy is in a wheelchair, because that would require more than a fleeting glance at what’s going on.

Ask him later today and he’ll have forgot this guy exists at all. It’s some dude who doesn’t matter at all because he’s not an investor or his daughter. Trump’s brain is literally Swiss cheese at this point. The people around him may be oppressing the disabled, but trump can’t because he’s forgot they exist at all.

My little nephew asked me about the execution yesterday. I couldn’t believe it. Apparently other kids were all talking about it.

I would 10000% tune in to watch a livestream execution of the current American administration.

Well, yeah. But first, tune into their warcrime trials first. Highest ratings Trump ever got, I bet.

I’d even PVR those trials to keep for future history lessons.

Video will still be distributed, I’m sure. Even if it needs to be “leaked.”

It’s disgraceful.

7

“Just how drunk were you, Hegseth?”

“I…don’t remember.”

“You’re lucky this isn’t a fireable offense.”

5

This would have been a line in the sand for a lot of people, even supporters of the death penalty.

Theres a difference between thinking that its necessary and celebrating it.
