I don't see any issues here, she should be able to be towed out to sea and dive successfully.

Load her up with a full array of weapons and send her on her way.

It's an ancient diesel electric sub. It's about as close to a budget military sub as you can get.

Perhaps the guy who took it is concerned that if people can see exactly who was present at that moment they might be able to work out who he was.

I'm sure there's a joke about not having a navy but sinking submarines, but I'll let Zelensky tell it.

They do have a navy it's just a cheap and exploding navy.

Meanwhile the Russians have an expensive and explodable navy.

Damage like that would probably cost as much to properly repair as it would take to build a new sub.

I’m not a submersible expert by any stretch, but given the visible damage it’s a safe bet the pressure hull has been damaged and possibly punctured. In US subs the pressure hull is cast as a single piece, but I believe Russian ones are two pieces welded together. Whatever the case, damage to the pressure hull is far from trivial to repair. Any repairs to it that aren’t a complete replacement will likely result in a significantly weaker hull, meaning it could no longer safely dive as deep as it used to.

And replacing it would mean almost complete disassembly. Probably safer and more cost effective to build a completely new sub and cannibalize any parts from this one that makes sense.

Yeah thats shit is wrecked!

Hulls are complex, all that tension and heat damage, can't undo it.

Isn't he?! Just came across his channel about a week ago. Instant subscribe. He really seems to know his stuff too.

That pixelated joke in the linked video was peak British wit too.
