Started another playthrough of the first Control. Just walking around blasting stuff with the melee push and watching how all the individual items react never gets old.
I'm playing Ori and the Will of the Wisps. It has a 90% discount in Steam right now and it's been on my wishlist for a long time.
It's a beautiful game to look at. It runs great on the Steam Deck. The only issue I had was that it's quite dark for the OLED screen, but I've turned up the brightness and now it's good.
I find it quite challenging to play though, but that's part of the fun. If you like metroidvania games, I do recommend it, especially at its current price.
Lots of Cyberpunk 2077 this week. I've been mostly driving around and doing side missions/gigs so I didn't make much progress with the main story. I did however finish the parade and the intro (rescue) section of Phantom Liberty to unlock Dogtown and make sure I won't lock myself from the expansion in case I decide to play it later.
As fun as the game is I feel myself drawn to any and all non-combat activities, which are somewhat limited in this game. Maybe I'll do a photography tour of the map for a bit?
Just finished Assassin's Creed Directors Cut after getting it free or cheap from somewhere. Was nice to revisit something I'd originally played (and abandoned) many years ago.
I've since played a few of the others and was nice to contrast both the pureness of the original and the enhancements of the later.
My friend convinced me to try playing through Kingdom Hearts, so after spending way to long trying to understand the numbering convention I'm playing Kingdom Hearts I.5
I come back to anno 117 like a failed teetotaller. I've had a problem with just restarting each world because "it's by challenging enough now" or "I want to see what it'd be like to start from..." Or I just lose my thread by expanding too fast. I think this time will be different but I'm going to commit to only playing on the weekends and not in my free periods.
It's still so time consuming and the pirates are designed awfully, but I think the game is gonna rehab it's image a bit over the coming years
Oh and I started playing braid to distract from an earache. So good! So challenging. One of the most nostalgic games for me because my dad brought it for me and himself when he first got a steam account; was transitioning me into pc gaming instead of playstation gaming. Thanks dad.
Couldn't get very far with it as a kid I think but it was swag. Looking back, it's kind of cool how you can just tell if a game is crisp and good quality. I was instantly bonded with it. Also a bit of a connoisseur with videogames now, like I only play arty graphics instead of flashy graphics stuff.
I'll be as honest and as thorough as possible. It's because:
Game clearly wasn't as polished as the development team wanted it to be, but ubisoft the publishers know that allows them to squeeze a bit more money from DLCs. So content they would have released on day 1 was moved to dlcs down the line.
The main campaign ends spontaneously at a stupid point in the game
The main campaign presents two approaches in it's second region but they are not balanced
It had glitches upon it's release.
political reasons and woke. Anno 1800 already "went too woke" in people's eyes by trying to push a vague sense of a society more equitable than it really was in the 1800s - I don't mind either way because while that's a good argument, the game is in a fictional world not perfectly resembling our own, so the creators have that freedom.
How did anno 117 do this? Well it has a female emperor, her daughter does trade which should be illegal for the nobility, and women. And it glasses over slavery a lot.
compared to Anni 1800 which has 4 years of DLCs (12 large DLCs), anno 117 had less content in release. It already feels like it is nearing 1800 is size, to me, and also that's a stupid reason to dislike it
it is needlessly more demanding for your PC. 1800 was already fun to look at. There are diminishing returns on the graphics.
Some stuff that I have a problem with but haven't seen criticised:
the pirates are way too tough to handle and make the game not fun
economy is honestly badly balanced. I'm an experienced anno player and playing it on tough settings makes it really horrible to get big things like military excursions done. I'm pretty sure that only people on easy (aka default) settings are conquering other islands and conquering pirates with ease.
adding to the economy: game gives you city walls but there is never any reason to build them, they are less effective.
I think the game tries too hard to be polished and ends up being clunky as a consequence. Moving troops, moving ships, placing buildings (especially the special ones like canals and aqueducts) juuuust doesn't work.
I just wrapped up the main game of Resident Evil: Village. Hated fighting those lurching, weaving lycan bastards, loved how it was basically a love letter to the classic Universal horror monsters. I'll probably start Shadows of Rose tomorrow.
I've also gotten 2 or 3 endings now in the infamous MyHouse.wad Doom II map. It's a trip. Great story, great atmosphere, and even with my limited knowledge of Doom wads, I can tell they used some pretty crazy tricks to make this work. Somehow this was the more frightening of the two, lol.
Coffee Quake 2, a collection of 132 player-created Quake maps, each with an expected play time of about five minutes- roughly the length of a coffee break.
Pokemon Picross on my newly hacked 3ds. It's quite amazing puzzle game but instead of doing random figure you dot out a pixel art of pokemon, so once you done the puzzle you get a picture of a pokemon and then also get that pokemon and use the ability to help with the puzzle. I'm genuinely happy when i found a copy of it online, without it this game is officially unavailable everywhere. Kinda make a very strong point for game preservation.
I also started playing a bit of Ever Oasis, it feels like animal crossing with combat? Idk, still haven't grasp what it is about, only spend half hour with it.
Got another mastery achievement in Hitman. Just three or four left now I think.
I’m also playing some Oblivion again. Started a new playthrough, it’s been probably a year since I’ve touched the game so I thought I’d pick it up again. It’s been fun. I missed this game.

Valheim 1.0 update, has been a long time coming and super worth it!
Hogwarts Legacy is surprisingly good! Been playing this for the past week.

Stardew Valley Expanded. Never played it to completion but I think it's perfect rn because I've been so overstimulated recently.
God of war hardest difficulty (whyyyyyy). Also a bit of Roblox and look outside

The Witcher 3 Remastered. What a game. I love it like i played it the first time. Although it has some weird bugs.
This week:
The Witcher 3 remastered, that most of us got for free at the end of September.
It was hard not to dive back in that world.
Started Dishonored 2. What a blast, love it.
I love the level design, although it sometimes breaks my brain. Story is decent, all in all a pleasant experience.
Bought this one this week, it's in the queue.
Would recommend continue with Death of the Outsider. This series is a masterpiece that no one can copy.
My friend convinced me to try playing through Kingdom Hearts, so after spending way to long trying to understand the numbering convention I'm playing Kingdom Hearts I.5

Man the reviews for anno 117 are so bad. Is it because of the gameplay or the DLC-fest? Would the game be worth pirating?

That was really detailed! You should make it into a review post in one of the game comms :D
All in all, it sounds like you prefer 1800? It was definitely one of the greats, what's keeping you in this one?

Wait, what do you mean 2 or 3 endings?! Now I'll have to go back and find the rest.

The maps' brevity keeps things feeling fresh. There's some unevenness but I can say this much for even the weakest inclusions: They're short.
The first Coffee Quake is also good fun.
Nitroglycerine. Cool concept, but it needs better controller support to play on the Steam Deck.
