This is getting out of hand. Now there's two of them!
Yeah was just thinking I've inspired him
Wait a decade until the baby can do the lawn mowing. Look forward to be proud of your kid.
It works that way. Keep calm and have fun.
My kids were taught how to mow the lawn. However since I have a small push mower with no power assist, I consider it my biweekly workout. It helps keep the weight off. So they don't touch it.
I remember when my grandpa got a power assist mower. That was the day the lawn became my chore. One day while mowing I decided to push it without the assist. That lasted about 5 seconds. I couldn't have been 10 years old then, but even as a grown adult I salute anyone that pushes that thing around.
It's not that bad if you know what you are doing.
A mower bag is for collecting leaves not grass clippings. If you are not picking up the clippings it's a ton lighter and easier.
Mow at the correct height of the grass species. My lawn is PRG and TTTF. So I put the deck as high as it goes. This makes it a ton easier to push.
Sharpen your mower blades at least yearly. It doesn't take long and really makes things easier.
Mow more frequently if possible. When the grass grows faster in the spring and fall, I often mow twice a week. During the heat of the summer I might only mow every 2-3 weeks as the grass grows slower. Not pushing the mower through thick overgrown grass cuts down on the work.
If you get behind and the grass is tall (like after a couple weeks vacation), walk really slow, and only take half swipes. This lets the blades do their thing without overloading them.
Fertilize only in the spring. If you don't pickup your clippings this is enough the the entire year.
How do you sharpen your blades?
Take the blade off the mower, hold it in a vice and run a file over it. It takes a bit of time depending on how dinged up it is.
I have been thinking about getting a bench grinder for a few years but I like using hand tools.
Bench grinder will save you time and it's like a hammer,
Once you have one you will have so many uses.
Those drill bits you have that squeel, bench grinder
That burred up chisel that doesn't cut, bench grinder
That punch with all the edges flaking off, bench grinder
Alternatively though vice and a regular grinder does much the same thing
Those assisted ones are usually heavier and quite a bit harder to push than a normal push mower when the drive system craps out. I had one that happened to, and it was definitely a workout compared to a "normal" mower.
Yeah until I bought my new wheelie machine on the weekend my self propelled mower was great but it still took so much longer.
Then the drive gave up and I figured I can fix it but I needed a ride on for my bigger areas and a tractor is just to expensive
Both my kids are in their 30's... I still have to mow my lawn, and then go across town and mow my daughter's lawn too. I guess I'm just doomed to mow until I die.
Ditch the lawn and find some natives. For me (california) I love my lippia. No water once established. Flowers for bees. Jumping spiders hunting flies. Spreads by itself. Doesn't have to be mowed.
Find a local native nursery, tell them you hate garden maintenance and want natives, and they should be able to recommend wat you need
Probably will do that to the front lawn eventually. Back lawn is gona be nice for kiddo once theyre bit older
Look at lippia / frog fruit. It does the same thing as a lawn but doesn't require mowing
Hell yeah brother. I need to mow mine too. It's spring here and it's been so wet the grass is growing like crazy, but of course, it's too wet to mow! Hoping the weather clears up and I have time to get out there....
Hell yeah, brother!
I feel you and my kids are 11 & 15 and I have a riding mower, so really no excuse other than I didn't want to.
