Medicare for All remains key pressure point for Democrats ahead of midterms
Last week, 1,500 unionized nurses gathered in a large conference room at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco to cheer for a cause they’ve championed for years: Medicare for All.
Considered a radical and even fringe idea for decades, interest in sweeping healthcare reform has surged as progressive Democrats have won a series of primary victories ahead of November’s crucial midterm elections. Most prominent among its advocates is Democratic US Senate nominee from Michigan Abdul El-Sayed – who took the lectern before these nurses.
“Medicare for who?” asked El-Sayed – “ALL!” the crowd shouted back.

They won't do it. Stop wishing for it and replace them.
Should be mediCAID for all.
Medicaid is sadly less popular then Medicare because Americans don't sympathize with the poor / don't think they'll be poor while they know they'll eventually be old and need Medicare.
Medicaid only pays providers about 2/3 of what Medicare pays for the same services, so a lot of primary care doctors don't take Medicaid patients. This leads to delayed care and overuse of the ER.
Medicaid has way too many restrictions applied against coverage. You basically have to be poor, in order to qualify for coverage.
Medicare doesn't have those restrictions. It's basically just age-related...so expanding it just means making the same coverage available to more age-brackets.
A lot more doctors accept Medicare than accept Medicaid, so treatments are easier to access and outcomes are better.
Wait… USA isn’t seriously still on this “Medicare for all” nonsense while the Trump admin is gutting Medicare.
I'm not sure what you're point is. Fully socialized medical care would be better, but Medicare for all is a good first step, and would involve reversing any damage currently being done.
I’m saying the USA is about to lose all government funded social programs over the next 2 years, which is the topic a rational person would focus on. Killing the root cause.
Where's the contradiction? Do you really think it's a better strategy to put off larger reforms and focus on only preventing regressives from making things even worse?
I think the American people are going to realize that by putting off dealing with fascism will just end up getting them more fascism.
But at the end of the day, having left the United States permanently, I am very much looking forward to the fall of the United States because it only makes more financial opportunity for me and everyone else.
Well, here's hoping we can get through that process without even more global war and collapse, I think in the short to medium term it's not looking great for anyone.
