This is from Star Trek 4. The dude with the headband and the dude who looks like the guy from Boston Legal are playing time travelers from the future.

The joke is that they have heard the later albums, because they are from the future, but the woman thinks they're LARPing because they don't know how many albums they have released.

It came out a month before that scene takes place (November vs December 18). It's unlikely Dr Taylor would have heard of them yet.

That album wasn't their debut, they had singles and were touring prior to this including opening for Madonna. That album also had a million sales in around 12 week. I don't think t's that implausible.
