Yeah missed a trick didn't have my akubra on unfortunately since I wanted to mow with my noise cancelling headphones on and they don't fit over it like they do a cap

As an old medic. It's been my experience if you do tip/roll one of those larger mowers, you don't get to post about it.

****I did 2 fatality calls like that.

Also, OPs mower doesn’t appear to have a roll bar, so if it rolls on him, it’s not getting off until it’s done.

A roll bar would keep it so you only get to lay on your back when you flip, instead of the mower sitting on your head.

Yeah RoHOPs are required in the US. But with the pretty flat terrain in OP's picture, he's about as safe as one can get. Those zero turns are quite wide and stable. It's the lawn tractors and mini tractors like my 1023r that can be more dangerous. They have a fairly narrow width and don't do well on side hills.

Do you know what models are rolling?

1

It's almost always people attempting to mow slopes that are too steep in order to save on line trimming.

Extra points when they're close to water so they get pinned underwater.

2

Got about 4 meters. I think with some practice could go further maybe.

Being zero turn, when the front comes up i fall away from the handles as it all leans back causing me to come off the acceleration. So getting the balance is hard

I'd love to have a big enough garden to cut the grass with a cool little lawn-mowing car thingy.

I cut my grass by hand with what basically amounts to "a big pair of scissors" :)

Yeah i never used too until i moved an hour from town its about 60 kms so lands cheap

I have a friend who did it with a scythe for the excercise and definitely not because of his high school goth phase coming back out.

And then he got a mower because he realized the muscle powered past sucks, actually, engines are great.

9

Using a scythe (scything?) is awesome. It takes some time to figure out, but once you do it is extremely satisfying and actually not very exhausting. The hard part is keeping the damn thing sharp.

The zero turns are a ton of fun. Just buy some extra bearings for the front wheels, everyone loves lifting the front wheels off the ground, nobody loves the front wheels getting all loose and flappy. They're usually easy to replace though.

6

Yeah luckily I'm a diesel mechanic so fixing shit is my forte,

Im also "responsible" so probably won't be doing any more wheelies.

Just wanted to make sure I couldn't flip. Just in case the boy gets on it and works out the controls before he's responsible enough. But let's be serious he won't be until he's 30 cause I sure as shit am only barely there haha

Was none really anyway, we're in the dry season its all mostly dead.

There were some tall bits but rains are coming so I wanted to cut them fling the seeds etc and get some spread hopefully.

The ground is more rock then anything too, so maybe next year get some top soil but see how the run off goes this year

I think the shades, the mustache and the rest of the guy fit very well as a full character. Could be a game, movie, video, photo.

LawnKings 2.

No patch left untouched, no bush left unwacked.

Hustler?

Seems overkill for what looks like maybe 4m² of grass in a paddock of dirt and dust mind you.

5

Yeah hustler,

We're at the end of our dry season, and haven't really had rain in 5 months.

By there end of next month it all be growing.

There's 4 other paddocks to get done too

I dunno

can it lift stuff kinda like a forklift?

2

Unfortunately no,

One day I want to buy a tractor with fork tines bucket and slasher, Unfortunately that shit is real expensive

3
lemmy.world

That's awesome.

However, I have a legit question. I'm sure zero point turn mowers are more efficient and easier to use, no but don't they look goofy as hell? I liken it to a recumbent bike vs a normal bike. Sure it may be easier to do, but wouldn't you feel stupid using it? I know I shouldn't care what other people think, not when I got a new riding mower last year, I just couldn't bring myself to get a zpt mower.

Proceed with the down votes...

It's a lawn mower, not a sports car. Who cares what it looks like?

14

A man can't look smashing while standing next to his lawnmower and wearing a polo, cargo shorts, and sketcher/New Balance tennis shoes if that mower don't look clean and sharp also.

I think that riding mowers look goofy. They’re like a toy tractor. You have a grown ass man riding a power wheels tractor!

That’s on top of the fact they do a worse job in twice the time! One of these is made for drinking beer and one is for getting the job done.

But that’s just my opinion.

aussie.zone

Yeah really can't have a beer on a zero turn, unless you're pulling up every 5v minutes for a mouthful.

Just hook in get it done then have beers after

This is how I like doing it anyways. The beer is the reward for a job well done.

Fellas are you trying to look cool on your mowers or am I doing it wrong?

8

You should ALWAYS strive to look cool on your mower. Why else are you wearing those cargo shorts?

3

I went zero turn since I have other paddocks with trees etc and they're so much better for zipping around obstacles etc.

There main downside of them is you can't have a tin in one hand while you mow the grass. But when you're cutting around trees and fences, the less piss you're consuming the better.

They are if all you want is a larger lawnmower. I use a little JD 1023r as a lawnmower. But it also has to do things like mount a landscape rake to a 3 point hitch and even a 6' blade for road maintenance. And move things like small wagons and trailers. Some people put front end loaders and snowblowers on them too. Not something you can do with a zero turn.

2
aussie.zone

Yeah i really want a small tractor one day. The fork tine attachments for hay etc would be amazing.

How's the used tractor market down there? You guys must have some 40 year old Ferguson 30/35 tractors around? I understand those things are eternal.

1

There's a market in the more populace places but where i live not so much. And by the time you freight something across the whole country you have spent so much money.
