From The Verge: "Reddit will stop supporting RSS feeds on November 13th"
#Reddit claims that "RSS is 'now a common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse'."

Maybe some frontend will add #RSSfeeds now, if there isn't any already?
Still, sounds to me like either, or both, a scapegoat and an engineered problem they now harvest the exact fruits they wanted from.

A billion dollar company that made their money off of the user's content, now gatekeeping the user's content completely. They make shit smell good.
I’d bet a lot of the valuable content that users freely gave to Reddit were from users who kept up with it all via RSS. Knocking them out of the picture, plus pissing off the old guard with the constant old Reddit removals, is going to shoot themselves in the foot. I’ve noticed a distinct lowering of quality and standards over there since the whole API mess when a lot of classic mods jumped ship over that choice. Seems like they’re well on their way to ruining what they had.
@[email protected] can't say for others, but I also find RSS to be a good way to keep motivated on using a platform, even to keep posting to or interacting with, not just quietly consuming stuff. Even more so when its UI, UX and some times even userbase are miserable at best, RSS allowing me to avoid the problematic parts.
Reddit killing RSS is the reason I'm on Lemmy. Those feeds have been in danger for a while.
I just joined for that specific reason. I hope a decent mass of quality users jump ship too.
Same here. I read both lemmy and reddit through an rss reader.
Unfortunately the few subreddits I follow appear to be dead or non-existent on Lemmy but that means there's room to get it going
@[email protected] maybe worth following equivalent hashtags from Mastodon #RSS feeds? Plenty without communities you get something as hashtags at least, e.g. https://mastodon.social/tags/psvita.rss for following #psvita through RSS, while the only community I know gets a post about every other month from what I notice.
I have considered that! The thing I like about lemmy/reddit though is that I can follow a single RSS feed that dynamically mirrors the communities I follow, so I can just follow things natively on lemmy, and my RSS reader will pick them up.
I was trying to figure out if Mastodon can do this but I do not think it is a thing 😞.
I have some time to figure out what I want to do, though. Who knows, maybe I'll just add a few Mastodon hashtags. Thanks for the pointer!
Mastodon has rss feeds for users, not sure if there are for hashtags

Redlib has support for RSS feeds but you’ll likely have to selfhost it if you want to use it, I don’t think I know public instances that have it enabled.
Fuck Reddit.
