now that i think about it, in the actual story it feels perfectly in character for legolas to constantly point things out that everyone else is aware of, because he knows they have worse senses and overcompensates.

"the enemy approaches" yes thank you legolas we can see that.
"right, yes. sorry.."

Some people might be wondering, "couldn't they just talk to each other and learn about each other?"

They're men. We don't communicate at all, for any reason.

How was hanging out with your friend at the bar?

It was fine

What did you talk about? How's he doing?

We sat in silence and grunted at each other for 3 hours straight. He seems to be fine

The "I worked with a guy for years and even went over to his house multiple times but only knew him by his nickname" thing is very true

I've always identified with Ron Swanson in that way. Though it's less about not caring, we can actually care, we just don't say it, then may or may not regret that 15 years later at their funeral.

"The less I know about other people’s affairs, the happier I am. I’m not interested in caring about people. I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes."

Do you really need an answer? Parodies are exaggerations of reality and that series is old, since then humanity kept getting worse. Why do you think the manosphere and all that crap is so widespread? Because it feeds on men unmet needs.

I was just playing around, but now I have questions..... if you know men have unmet needs, why not just meet your needs? That seems like a shorter path from a to b than doubling down and building a whole manosphere?

It's too complex and I'm not qualified but here's my take on this:
We live in a patriarchal society where men are told all those things they need are feminine traits and their masculinity is valued in the most toxic way, so when adults seem to have nothing they need nor expected one would think, like you do, they should learn, evolve and reconstruct what's broken. But you are using logic and people are idiots too tired or too lazy to put all the energy and effort required to do that.
There's also that human thing that apparently used to help us survive somehow where, when confronted with the harsh reality, we tend to choose our own beliefs instead or follow the logical path of questioning everything and adapt according to the answers. We fight wars to defend what our environment instilled into our minds. The manosphere tell them they are right, their beliefs are true, they offer them a group to be the worse version of themselves thinking they are doing what's right and that the uncomfortable world telling them otherwise is wrong.
Comforting lies vs rough truth; lies win too many times. It's like a cult and we all know how hard it is to get someone out of those.

The people getting rich by causing the problem and then offering a solution for a price.

Nah I dunno, I think being forced to live inside their head, even for a day, would be a level of hell that's unmatched. They might have money, but it's like scratching an itch that never stops itching. I like our kinda fucked up, better.

That's so sad, everyone deserves human connection.

I am being facetious, but this isn't far from true. True human connection between men is very informal. It's mostly about being around each other

It took me too long to really understand this about men. It just never made sense to me that guys wouldn't want to talk things out. I'm so happy that I don't need to do that song and dance anymore.

Life is an eternal battle between "I won't pry, he'll tell me if he wants" and "I won't bother him, he'll ask me if he wants to know".

Some friendships just work in different ways. Some talk at length about the problem, others talk around the problem. Mostly it a mix of both. As long as everyone involved feels connected the words used don’t matter

Boromir knows it, but just calls him "Leggy" for short, "Elf names... Amiright!"

6

I am now convinced that Boromir is the equivalent of a redneck in the group. Sure, he might be almost-royalty and he might have grown up in one of the largest cities, but mentally, he is driving a rusty truck, wearing a plaid shirt and drinking bud light while listening to old country. He thinks elves are suspiciously androgynous, and probably woke tree huggers, but he's trying his best to not be a dick about it, because he doesn't want to be "that guy" in front of what are essentially foreign diplomats. Also, between all the gay elves, completely unhinged hobbits and self-righteous so-called wizards, someone has to be the common sense of the group, and it sure as hell won't be that hippie dropout that spends his days banging some local elf king's daughter and stumbling through the forests, yet somehow claims to be the long lost king or some bullshit like that.

Did they ever clarify if they were or not in the directors cut
