Nah, I don't have kids because I don't want any. It's not a protest, not everything has to be a social movement. Drop the gen Z nonsense and just accept people do things for other reasons.
I don't want to give birth, and I'd be a shit mom. That's why I'm child free.
I don't want any first and foremost, but at the same time the fact that it annoys "family values" conservatives is definitely a bonus, and I am looking forward to it becoming an even bigger wedge issue for them.
I'm childfree for the same reasons. That you and I choose to do this in a society that is still deeply tilted towards having children and raising a family, and offers many benefits -- spoken and unspoken -- for being so, is in itself an act of protest. That you and I can choose to do this without facing immediate, devastating, life-changing consequences is in itself the result of many acts of protest before we came along.
Everything is political, including the personal. Granted this is one of the much quieter, slower forms of revolution against the status quo, but it is one nonetheless.
Couldn’t agree more. We don’t want kids but maybe we would’ve is the world wasn’t ending. If our country provided adequate social services and public education more people would want kids. If elder care was taken seriously instead of thrust upon relatives.
Not having kids is absolutely a protest to the social norms.
There are sos many people on Earth who want to protest in this same way but their communities and government have made the childfrre lifestyle impossible whether it is through restrictions of birth control methods and abortions or through making you into a pariah if youo talk about being childfree or a regretful parent.
a completely valid reason. Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing with us. 🫂
Sadly however if you go to most places on Earth and you say whst you just typed out to your friends there either theyd turn you into a pariah or they would say some ignorant shit like 'chIldFrEe PeoPle dOnT exiSt' ...
...hmmm
Doesnt sound like a much oof a revoluttion to me if most people arent even on your side
young people. my wife and I are in our 50's and we figured out in our twenties that things were not good enough to be havin kids. I am so lucky I went to school to much because if I had gotten a career going in the 90's I might have had kids. dodged a bullet.
This is interesting, because the media was unbelievable ridiculous in the 80s, and people believed everything they heard more often, and also things were better back then. What was bothering you back then? Cold war? That's all I recall from then that was really bad to experience.
80's i was in high school. basically I went to school long enough that I was not getting going career wise untill the new millenium and it was about 2005 when we made the no decision. If I had not went to so much school I might have gotten going in 95 and decision time might have been like 98. that is where I dodged the bullet.
...well...I would say that this isnt the beginjing of a revolution as revolution typical require substantial action from the majority of the populations that leada to permanent changes. We saw that with the Haitians, Cubans, North Koreans, Vietnamese, Slavic peoples, Chinese, etc... during EACH OF THEIR respective revolutions. And surveys from like last year show that most people either already have children or plan on having chilldren eventually. If you indicate that youre chilfree or a regretful parent today in most places on the planet theyll either stone you, misunderstand you, or turn you into a pariah.
I feel like what falling birth rates and falling sex rates indicate is that there is a potential for revolution to eventually be initiated not that a revolution has already initiated. I feeo like there is a potential for us to initiate a revolution that normalizes the childfree lifestyle for ALL types of peoples globally. And yes it will also normalize access to birth conntrols methods, abortion, and adequate sex education.
When the majirity of people start reporting in studies and surveys that their main reason of apprehensiveness towards having children is that 'they are afraid of the direction thst the planet and humanity are going in' and 'the financial and chronological costs of raising a child is too expensive' AND they substantiate a substantial apprehensiveness towards birthing any children ? Then and only then will I believe that a childfree revolution is happening and its basis for happening is that most people want to end this climste change-ignoring , capitalistic dystopia. ...I havent seen such a thing happen yet..... but I will remain hopeful. 🤟🏿
I will also add that I am childfree MAINLY for the reasons he has hstated.
I dont wsnt any of my potential descemdants to suffer through the bullshit of global warming and
I dont have the time or the money to raise a child
Also Ill add anither reason which is Im kinda braindead I admit so I already know I would put that child in danger becausee of all the 'Darwin-Award' BS I put myself into lol.
that's not how it is. people aren't not having children because they will be cannon fodder in some bullshit wars, but because it's inherently pointless. there's not gonna be jobs in the future. who'd put a child in the world that's gonna be eternally bored? what's the point in that?
........There's not gonna be jobs in the future?......
Actually you kmow what ? I dare you to show us this 'future' you speak of. Come back to this comment in 20 or 30 year, so about a generations time, and then show me how there are 'nO jObs iN ThE FuTurE' . Actually make it 50 years.
Im gonna be completely honest with you, I think that your comment that you have made here was made with the AMAZINGLY incorrect assumption that you believe that the advances thst humans will make in technology and AI will replace all or most of human labour in the future ....is that what you were attempting to state? (....PLease say no....)
"There's not gonna be jobs in the future" does not lead to "eternally bored" in a capitalist dystopia like the one we're turning the world into. Being bored is a luxury, and a staggering percentage of kids being born today will not have that luxury (and indeed, may well end up as cannon fodder often for no fault of their own) in the future we're crafting for them.

Bored? How fucking boring do you have to be to be bored without a job?
