"llamamp". A .ogg player... and a winamp clone.

This is basically "winamp, but it plays (exclusively) .ogg files instead and is heavily optimized to provide the lowest CPU usage possible" -- there's an equalizer, playlist, a volume bar. A feature that minimizes CPU use when the application is on the foreground. And yes, the graph does work and is perfectly syncronized with the song. And all you see here are purely made of code -- no .png or .bmp files included, don't worry about it. And logically, no need to run wine or some other shoddy translation layer -- it all runs natively on your PC.

CPU usage is comically low, as you can see here (tested on a orange pi 5 max):

To unpack the file, download dependencies and compile (on a debian distro, while in the same directory as where the llamamp.tar.gz file has been downloaded): tar -xf llamamp.tar.gz && sudo apt install -yq build-essential pkg-config libsdl2-dev && make -j$(nproc). Install it with sudo make install.

Compatibility: Pretty much anything you've got. It runs on X11, wayland or on nothing at all.

How to use it: Run "llamamp /path/to/song.ogg" or use the playlist.

Why forego a repo URL in favour of a download link? The repo at https://gitlab.com/gee.8ruhs/writteninc has no development files, no version tracking, no licenses...

That, and the obvious LLM reference in the name, makes this whole project a big no-go for me.

I'm not saying they didn't use any LLMs in coding it, but the name is not indicative of that given the software they are mimicking.

Winamp famously always shipped with one MP3 file with its install of a guy saying their slogan: "Winamp - it really whips the llama's ass!"

Why not fork xmmp or qmmp or any of the other Winamp clones?

I’m not complaining, I genuinely want to know what differentiates this software.

The download link goes to gitlab, you can cut off the end to go to the source.

The gitlab repo appears to be a dump of random small .c programs and different .tar.gz archives. The download link OP provided is the source.

Oh. I was a bit confused at the names of the files, but now it makes sense.

Before you get too far into reinventing the wheel, you might want to check out xmmp or webamp which both do a fine job of supporting Opus, Ogg, and FLAC.

I set mine up with support for ever winamp skin i could find

i hope that this project can survive the ai hysteria that's going on rn.

It won't, sadly. All it took was a single baseless reply to throw this project into the trash can (see: the downvote barrage happening right after it).

At least I had fun doing this... so it's all good.

I downvoted not because of any AI concern but because it's clearly a crappy personal project. Nobody should use this.

What do you base that on?

Not saying you’re wrong, but I can’t see that you’re right.

90% of this is usually based on knowing where on the keyboard the "–"-key is located and using it correctly over hyphens...

The best part is, the post doesn't even contain em dashes, it's just multiple minus signs (-- vs —)

Multiple dashes and 'rules of three' throughout the text makes it seem generated

1

The rule of three is a common rhetorical device.

And multiple dashes is a common way for a human to type an em dash. I’ve been writing like that since the early nineties.

I don’t sound like an LLM. LLMs sound like me.

You reached the end
