Also literally what the bad guy was doing at the end of ATLA before Aang stopped him.

Somebody should take away Bibi's firebending...

Considering Israel's response to October 7th was to commit one of the worst genocides in living memory on the innocent people of Palestine and following your logic the children of Israel are as guilty as the war criminals in charge of Israel?

Sorry buddy, the sarcasm didn't come across through text. Common problem on the interweb.

Great, another dope who doesn't understand that genocide is not a numbers game. Genocide is the intentional action to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.

We are well beyond proving Israel's intent in this case, their acts in this genocide have been well documented. Israel doesn't seem to understand that in 2026 everyone has a video camera in their pocket. We don't actually know how many bodies are under the rubble in Gaza as it has not been cleared yet, with the Israeli government hindering this process as well as stopping any international journalists from accessing the area. All of the death tolls we have are estimates but even at the lower end I don't think there has ever been a conflict where innocent civilians were killed at such a rate compared to combatants. We have the evidence of the systematic targeting of children with chest and head shots by the IDF. Cutting off water, food and medical supplies to Gaza which is still going on to this day.

Jewish exceptionalism is the scumbags in charge of Israel thinking they will somehow get away with this. The tide is turning and as soon as the USA stops supporting Israel with their money, weapons and UN veto you dirty beggars will get what's coming to you from your angry neighbours. From the river to the sea you scumbag.

Yes, they’ve done a lot.

Apartheid. Meddling in Palestinian elections to ensure hamas in power (so that the PA is delegitimized and destabilized.)

And terrorist acts.

If we go back to the start- of the State of Israel- they’re also insurgents who used terrorists acts to over throw the nascent secular government and push out the already-on-the-way-out British government… because they didn’t want a secular government.

29

Nope, Israel just keeps ignoring it, and the western governments ignores that fact, for some reason...

17

Wasnt there just news that Israel knew about 7.10 before and let it happen so that they had a reason for this genocide?

15

What about this shows adequate retribution for an attack, and not outright indiscriminate destruction. You either can't see out of your eyes, or you're complicit, figure out which

State of Israel has earned its rightful place in history, right next to Nazi Germany.

Nazi Germany was overwhelmingly Christian, but Christianity has about as much to do with Naziism as Judaism has to do with Zionism.

4

Christianity has about as much to do with Naziism

Yet neo-Nazis will say that Jews are a primary opponent to Jesus Christ and have made themselves enemies of God to justify their antisemitism

1

There’s millions of Christian Zionists enabling this. The entire United States and a good portion of the west in general is just as guilty as Israel for allowing this to continue. Israel continuing to claim to represent all Jews while committing war crimes is antisemitism. Don’t drink the koolaid and blame “Jews” it’s the Zionist oligarch interests and colonialism fueling this fire.

Nazis killed 13 million people in WW2, Israel killed 80,000 in this war. I think most people here can agree Israel is historically evil, but let's not play genocide Olympics with Nazis, not a good look.

6
Avicennareply
programming.dev

let’s not play genocide Olympics with Nazis, not a good look.

You turn it into an Olympics by plucking two things out of their context and comparing raw death numbers, that is on you. A genocide is a genocide, so I am just placing them as two of the most evil states in the last century.

But if you really want to compare numbers, Nazis killed millions of Jews during WW2 where crossing borders and occupying whole countries was possible. State of Israel killed about 80000 Palestinians in peace time (and after decades of policies implemented to enforce the opinion that killing civilians is a war crime) displaced millions by levelling entire regions with bombs and is still actively causing millions of them to live in starvation and extreme poverty. Impact-wise these are quite similar, but somehow you think these are incomparable? You think that if we were in WW3, state of Israel wouldn't kill millions? I am pretty convinced they would. No need to play the "when you compare the two you lessen the atrocities done by Nazi Germany" game, especially considering Nazi Germany paid the price (admittedly because they lost, otherwise I don't think they would) where as State of Israel is walking out of this unscathed as it stands.

7
MonkRomereply
lemmy.world

No need to play the "when you compare the two you lessen the atrocities done by Nazi Germany" game.

No you are lessening the atrocities done by Israel. 80,000 is a massive number. Putting it against the largest genocide of the last hundred years is minimizing what Israel has done... I still think comparing the two is tasteless anyway because antisemites equate Israel with all Jews and salivate at the comparison.

2

That is precisely why I say state of Israel and not even Israel. And probably more accurately zionists.

Now add in all the countries that the US has invaded/bombed at the behest of israel.

3

All of our middle eastern direct deaths combined are under 1 million. But even a single death in war is horrific.

There is no need to compare suffering. If anything comparing against an outsized disaster like WW2 only serves to minimize how horrific all of these present day wars are, even if the death tolls are smaller. I think people get some weird perversion in comparing Israel to Nazis, its just weird, imo. Highlight the actual horror that is happening today.

6

Yes but Palestine has/had next to no representation in the UN, and almost no major political allies. Most of the nations that had always supported them are viewed as hostile/adversarial. So there was very little outrage on any diplomatic stage that matters, over the atrocities happening to Palestinians. At least until the extent of the atrocities became public, widespread, and undeniable.

On the other hand, nations like Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, these have more diplomatic leverage than Palestine ever did even at the height of the Palestinian Authority and the negotiations in the 90s.

There's no way in hell the global stage will be as passive when those other nations are in the crosshairs. Even Syria and Lebanon would be a stretch.

Not that it's morally justified for them to be treated differently, but realistically speaking yes there's a difference in how they will be treated.

2

Eh, they would never get away with doing something on the same scale to Egypt, Jordan, or Saudi Arabia. Probably not even Syria or Lebanon.

1

The UN only intervenes on geopolitically weak targets that aren't protected by member states who hold veto power. That's why it's only ever used against targets like African war lords. Israel's protected by the US in that regard.

17

If its not an unplanned nuclear exchange or sudden lost of wealth from a bank, then it's not a crisis scenario.

In which land do the people need to be "ready for peace" before peace can occur?

5
lemmy.world

The people in both must be ready for peace.. in case that was not obvious.

Israel's actions in Gaza are semi-justified on security grounds.

Israel's actions in the West Bank, much less so. I think friends of the Palestinian cause would get a lot more traction and sympathy by talking more about the West Bank and less about Gaza. Gaza's fate is sealed, and it will be a grim fate. Gaza is doomed. Tunnels will be destroyed, HAMAS neutralized, the cities ravaged, and when it's all done Israel will hand the mess back to the inhabitants to deal with.

That's like saying the rest of the world should bomb USA to rubble and kill as many civilians as possible because of your stupid ass president.

2

3
lemmy.ml

Nice whataboutism.

Hamas can be dealt with without bombing Gaza to shreds. And as far as I know there are no consequences the the Israeli gonverments actions.

But in Palestine all of the civilians has to pay the price for Hamas actions.

Edit: I forgot to mention it but there are evidence suggesting that the Israeli gonverment knew about the attack on Oct 7 before it happened but let it happen anyway because it gave them an excuse (it cannot be excused) to enter Gaza and kill as many as possible. They want ethnical cleansing.

16
lemmy.ml

It still does not take away the fact that Gaza is in ruins and Israel is still standing. It does not take away the war crimes the Israeli gonverment has committed. There are no excuses for their behaviour.

3
lemmy.ca

With all the missiles, and finally coming in and killing civilians and children and taking hostages, Israel had enough. It's obvious Hamas doesn't want peace, they use Palestinians as shields. If Israel stops before destroying Hamas, they only go back to being attacked daily.

Is war hell, and do innocent people suffer and die? Yes, in all wars.

Why won't neighboring states take Gazan refugees?

0

Why can't Israel deal with Hamas without blanket bombing entire areas? Why are they allowed to murder civilians? Why are they allowed to take land that is not theirs?

Honestly, why are Israeli people with more than Palestinian people?

Nothing you said can be an excuse for genocide and war crimes. Because genocide can NEVER be justified.

It really doesn't matter if Hamas sent missiles to Israel every day for the past 50 years. It still does not give Israel a right to do whatever they want with the Palestinian people.

2

Germans in the 1940's paid a grim price for bad political decisions they made in the 1930's

And it was a collective price, even if you weren't a Nazi, and even if you didn't vote for Hitler.

This is no different. Palestinians have been on the wrong side of things for 80+ years. Eventually the bill comes due for decades of bad political decisions (coupled with a lack of international support outside of extremist regimes in the region.) and the price must be paid. We are seeing that now, occurring in real time. Maybe the next generation will be ready for peace. There always seems to be another generation that follows the current one, no matter how many bomb vests they strap on their children.

How about some google pics of the underground tunnels used to store weapons, and paid for by Iran. The target the IDF is really after in Gaza. So little discussion of that among all the pics of dead babies and talk of genocide.

Absent historical context, the pics mean nothing. For that matter, all the deaths mean nothing too, absent proper context.

it wasn't about Nazis.

Palestinians have been tooting that horn for 80+ years and nobody outside a few radical actors in the region cares. Even Iran just needs Palestinians as cannon fodder.
