Ireland goalkeeper boycotting Nations League game against Israel - but match will go ahead

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu has left the squad while his teammates voted to go ahead with their controversial Nations League fixture against Israel.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) revealed on Saturday afternoon that a player had expressed their "discomfort" at playing in the match, telling the head coach that they intended to withdraw from the squad.

"I am a man of strong faith and try my best to be a person of character and principle therefore I feel it would be wrong to participate in the upcoming fixtures against Israel," he said.

"My decision is based purely upon my personal belief that the killing of innocent people is wrong.

Last week, Hallgrimsson used the word "genocide" in a news conference. The Israeli FA responded by calling his remarks stupid and ignorant.

lol

Perception always overrules opinion.

If someone says you smell, you smell. It's not up to you and you. You can wash and you no longer smell. Or you just continue to smell. Saying you don't smell doesn't make it so. Calling someone stupid and ignorant when they tell you that you smell is completely pointless.

Wish the rest of his teammates had the same courage of conviction. One day we will all have been against this genocide.

FAI are wholly to blame IMO. They never should have put the players in this position. It would have been so easy for management to make the decision to withdraw. Nobody here would have batted an eyelid.
