Israel expels Dutch officials from Gaza coordination center

Israel ordered the expulsion of Dutch representatives from a US-led coordination center in southern Israel on Tuesday, escalating a diplomatic dispute after the Netherlands moved to ban imports from Israeli settlements in the occupied territories.

Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar announced the decision on social media platform X, saying Dutch personnel would be removed from the International Support Center for Gaza in Kiryat Gat "immediately."

Saar said the expulsion order came at the request of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, citing what he called "a series of anti-Israel measures taken by the Dutch government." He pointed specifically to a new Dutch law barring trade in Israeli products from the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Golan Heights, which is set to take effect next month.

Former Al Jazeera journalist Ali Younes arrested in Amman for 'sharing article' questioning US aid to Jordan

Jordanian authorities have arrested and prosecuted investigative journalist Ali Younes after he allegedly reposted an article calling on Washington to cut billions of dollars in aid to the kingdom.

Younes, a Jordanian-American citizen and correspondent for the US-based investigative outlet Drop Site News, disclosed the case on Monday.

Security officials told Younes and his lawyer that the case centred on his reposting of an article published by The American Conservative questioning US aid.

The article questioned Washington’s extensive financial support for the Jordanian monarchy.

“It is reasonable to ask why Americans thousands of miles away should be footing the bill for Jordan when [King] Abdullah has amassed a fortune that he keeps stashed abroad rather than using it to care for his own population,” the article said.

Asian communities told ‘wash rice less’ and Muslims told to "wash feet less" in bizarre UK government £270,000 water-saving campaign

Asian and Muslim communities have been told to wash their rice and feet less in a water-saving push. "Ofwat", the water industry regulator, has been criticised for funding “bizarre” guidance targeting ethnic minority households.

It used £270,000 of billpayers’ money for a research initiative that used a celebrity chef to teach Southeast Asians how to cook and wash rice with less water. Muslims were also encouraged to use only a litre of water when performing ritual ablutions known as “wudu” before prayer.

The water industry has come under increased scrutiny following the long, dry summer which has left much of the country under hosepipe bans, sparking concerns customers could be penalised with higher bills under schemes to limit water use and fund improvements to the network.

Andy Burnham was reported to be preparing an intervention this week after The Telegraph revealed that Ofwat, the regulator, planned to allow firms to build “surge pricing” into bills from April during periods of water scarcity.
