Everytime I get excited about not going to a Kid Rock concert it gets canceled before I even have a chance to not go.
You win today's First World Problem contest for sure 😄
I hadn't thought about it that way but sure enough, I'll be putting this next to fantasy football and checking the stock market XD
Let it happen in silence. Like donating time / money / or anything else to help those in need. Don’t need to call out you’re being a good person, just be a good person. Do the right thing and let him pass silently into obscurity.
I agree. But only because I understand that the world in which I grew up is gone. The level of being able to profit off of and market oneself off of being a complete fucking loser and failure is too damn high.
I wish we could just point and laugh at awful people having funny things happen to them without them remaining relevant because of it. The fucking attention economy is awful.
Sometimes it's good to spread this kind of negative publicity, especially where positive action is needed for the person in question to succeed.
Sort of a strange analogy to me because raising awareness is actually a very important part of charity.
The world has changed, or reverted back to a period where fascists will support each other to insulate the most at risk through their own “charity” to try to mitigate the dying or regression of their movement. You have to learn what their tactics are and respond accordingly, which in today’s case is to ignore them instead of point and laugh. There will soon be a time for that, too.
Okay, I'm not going to refute any of that. Taking your comment at face value still makes the original a strange analogy, because raising awareness is important for charity. You shouldn't do charity in silence, is my point more than anything.
I’m not sure you’re understanding who is doing the charity - we’re talking about the fascists doing charity for each other in this case. They’re literally fund raising for each other when they are going viral, it’s like anti cancel culture in their minds. So by raising awareness, you’re literally helping them. Raise awareness of fascist tactics, of bad and deadly policy, of prosecutions, demand local leaders take action, but stop posting social media posts and comments and that just bring attention to individual fascists you don’t like, because that’s just helping them. If you need to report them to authorities, just do that.
I don't think you're understanding me. I'm talking about the original comment. They said:
This is the strange analogy part, to me, as you should not do these things quietly. Raising awareness is an important part of partaking in charity.
Let Kid Rock become obsolete in silence -> This part I agree with.
Don't raise awareness about other acts of charity -> This part I don't agree with.
Kid Rock makes music for...
guys who know exactly how much Sudafed you can buy at one time
men who know the routes to their favorite bars which don't go within 1500 ft of playgrounds and elementary schools
people who have the numbers of at least 2 P.O.s and bail bondsman saved in their cell
guys whose nieces aren't allowed to be around them unattended
women whose dating profile says "ready to settle down" because they realized they're not getting picked up at bars anymore
guys who think the stripper is actually into them
men who take cash jobs just so they don't have to pay alimony or child support
women who poke holes in condoms to try and extend the relationship
dudes who steal cardboard cutouts of scantily clad women from the beer store and proudly display them at home
women who drop their kids off at Chuck E Cheese because they consider it a free babysitter
people who how how much you can get for a stolen catalytic converter
guys who can see their kids every other weekend, but don't
women who go to bars in leopard print and try to pick up guys by saying "Hey hon..."
men whose 1 shirt and pants combo without a cigarette burn is "nice" outfit they wear to court
That killed me. So true.
I'm absolutely stealing that one.
And they all live in the same trailer park.
Dude is a fuckin loser.
this is so much fun to watch.
It's just so weird that there's people that like him and his music. It's really hard to imagine but they genuinely exist. And you wonder how that's even possible and you want to meet one to study them, try get an understanding, just general curiosity. Is it a mental thing? A social one? Trauma? What's happening in their brain where they hear the music and think, "This is really good. It is a favourite thing. In no way is this person a walking meme. They are very cool. I will pay money for this."
He's had about 3 good songs and they were all on one album from 1999, so I imagine his concerts got visits from folks wearing nostalgia goggles, same as Vanilla Ice or Marcy Playground.
Now that he's in the news more for being MAGA, folks who were all "oh boy bawitdaba!" when thinking about him are getting that overwritten with "wasn't he the dude doing shirtless workouts with the brain damaged antivax dude?", and thus, ticket sales fall apart.
Honestly a lot of his earlier stuff is serviceable if somewhat forgettable rap rock (He likely was inspired somewhere along the line by the early work of the beastie boys)
Once he decided he was also country fusion it really started to be very very crappy. His attitude is also awful since the early 2000s.
I do recall a song of his called "New York's not My Home" or somthing (this would be probably late 80s, early 90s) in which he essentially states that the wild stuff he encounters in New York doesn't bother him because he understands that there are cultural differences between places
It's a pretty far cry from the weapons level MAGA idiocy he now feeds on, though it seems to be slowly losing wind in his sails so to speak. (No one going to his shows lol)
That being said his best song is "Bawitaba" (sp?) which while fun sometimes isn't exactly an intellectually rich piece of artwork.
HEY! You keep Marcy Playground out of this!
Oh dang I've angered the entire Marcy Playground fandom.
Okay. That's a perfect reply.
All 12 of us are here.
I've been triggered
And me lol. Marcy playground is grossly underrated. Their first two albums are really good.
I love Marcy Playground, its not just nostalgia to me
I recall Bawitdaba, which was part of Big Shiny Tunes 4 and got played absolutely everywhere just as I was starting out in highschool.
That is literally the only song I know from him.
Oh, also he had a cameo appearance on the Simpsons.
He also has that shitty one that samples Werewolves of London.
All of his “ok music” was when he was almost outlaw country but outlaw rock.
Then we all discovered who he actually was
Yep, cowboy was probably his best and I can't even listen to it anymore because of how much a magat he is now.
What a rebel, he "can smell a pig a mile away"... so that he can find them, arm them with the military's hand-me-downs and remove all their accountability?
Song was good but yea he's such a magat bootlicker that it's sickening. Thankfully I got Bryan Andrews...

Spot on!
You're the C.L.I.T. Commander, aren't you?
Cock commander
Maybe he can sign on with Ed Sheeran. I heard there are some openings.
Writes in notebook:
There! A few more pearls of wisdom like that and I will be ready to make it in the music business!
He was a mediocre singer who started on the path to home base and pretends to be a poor person who grew up in a trailer park. His music is crap and I'm glad he's getting the reception he so rightly desrves.
Isn't it the agent's job to tell this asshole his career is over?
And put themselves out of a job?
Literally yes. Agents have multiple clients and would probably be better off focusing on the other ones.
10% of nothing is still nothing. pull the plug.
He can always fall back to his A-game of gas-station boner pill endorsement deals.
Who does he imagine "Freedom Fest" is helping?
Another one?
Damn, and here i was already not going!
Didn't Trump n MAGA buy any tiks to his crappy show?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Can anyone comment on the quality of his music?
I'd rather not listen to it myself to find out. Someone must have accidentally tuned in at some point?
I only know Bawtidaba. It's like if You took Limp Bizkits Rollin, removed the interesting guitars and left the stupid lyrics.
Yeah at least they had Wes Borland who's actually pretty talented
While he definitely wasn't the first to use autotune, he was one of the first to use that heavily stylized autotune that later became popular. Can hear it on the aptly named Only God Knows Why.
Kinda says it all.
He doesn't even know his own songs, he has to lip sync them
Everyone is jumping on the bandwagon of calling his music trash. Much like people did with Nickelback. I don't like him or his music, but it's not terrible.
People hate Nickelback because it's fun. People hate kid rock because his music sucks. The only good song he has is a duet with Sheryl Crow that is over 20 years old. His only halfway decent song since is 18 years old and is just sweet home Alabama mixed with werewolves of London. The only original song he has that made anyone pay attention to him has gibberish for a chorus. Nickelback sells out arenas and this dude can't even get enough people to go to a concert to actually have one. There is no comparison.
I'd argue Kid Rock has two good albums " Only God Knows Why" and "Cocky".
But yeah, his music sucks now and he's a twat.
Also I saw a shirt at the last concert I was at that said " Nickleback, fan or liar? " and thought that was hilarious.
Cowboy.
"Young ladies, young ladies, I like ‘em underage / Some say that’s statutory, but I say it’s mandatory.”
Not terrible? Lol
Ok, that's terrible. Not like I memorized the lyrics to all his music. Just going off what's I've heard over the years.
Nickelback is Beethoven compared to that loser.
I don’t like Nickelback.
The only song of his I know I've heard was his debut song from almost 30 years ago. Was it actually titled Kid Rock or am I misremembering b/c that's also the only part of the song I can still hear in my head?
You probably also heard the Warren Zevon song he stole and changed with tacky lyrics.
Rap rock, if you like Korn or Limp Bizkit it was a somewhat lamer version of that.
how is Korn even remotely like rap rock??
Ok not the best example, I should have said Rage Against the Machine. Korn is mainly nu-metal except for songs like Wicked.
Everyone’s just telling you he sucks, but he was actually quite popular back in the day. I loved his music in high school but grew out of it as an adult.
He was considered innovative in that he tried to bring rap and hip hop conventions into rock music: especially spoken work lyrics, sampling, collaborations, a distinct persona (“redneck pimp” - yes, really, etc.
Spoken word by itself became a whole subgenre in the late 90s/early 2000s: Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit followed by POD, Linkin Park, Papa Roach, etc. This subgenre as a whole has aged rather poorly, with even the better bands like Linkin Park being a bit hard to listen to now IMO. However, spoken word sections have persisted in rock and this is perhaps his strongest influence.
What really grew me out of his music was realizing that the stuff I liked was mainly stuff he’d sampled, and what I actually liked was the originals. For example, I liked American Badass until I heard Sad But True and realized he took a great song and made it mediocre.
If you’re really interested, listen to Bawitaba and Cowboy as his two big hits. If you want to hear his sampling, Only God Knows Why, American Badass, and All Summer Long should all be recognizable. But again, he very much is a relic of a genre that itself has aged poorly, so don’t expect to actually enjoy it all that much.
Actually, strike that, just watch the American Badass music video.
It has:
It’s basically the Kid Rockiest Kid Rock song.
Thank you, extremely comprehensive reply. I will actually check it out.
Ta
Only Dog knows why.
Kid Crock of shit
What do they expect when the business model is entirely reliant on rich people paying to subsidize anyone. That's kind of the whole problem with the US since Reagan (the actor!) Nice quote from the guy, "rich people suck." Yeah no shit.
Here in Australia, he only ever had 1 song. The only reason anyone even remembers who he is, is because Trump pushed him..
No idea why anyone would get music advice from Trump.. I'd send MAGA over to: https://lemmy.world/c/music (it would blow their minds), but, I'm concerned they'd ruin it
Ha!
I love when life imitates art
Kid Rock is the new Richard Simmons.
No. Richard Simmons was actually a good person.
