So Reddit is going to funnel money into soulless AI moderators that everyone will hate when they already had completely free human moderators? They're a bunch financial geniuses over there.
Free moderators tried protesting (it didn't achieve anything) so they try and make them even more replaceable.
I can already imagine people using prompts in their comments to mess up the LLM moderator
Oh please let it be so. ~(つˆ0ˆ)つ。☆
I'll have to create a new Reddit account just to leave again!
Mod: Anyway guys... Fuck Reddit!
Mod banned....
AIMod: Sorry, no ableism is allowed per rule 235. You said fuck. This is your 3rd time. You're IP banned.
Fuck you spez. What was once suspected to be the cause of all those heavy-handed permabans is now revealed.
Hot take: Reddit will improve because the AI has to be better than the HOA-mentality losers that currently moderate Reddit.
AI moderating AI.
Like seriously, I still engage in some niche subs from time to time, but literally everything feels like bots talking to bots.
Dead Internet Theory, baby.
TBH, the reply of "Dead internet theory" is starting to feel like a bot pattern matching on "bot talking to bot".
Like we get it.
I prefer the Bread Internet Theory
The bots will soon learn how to bake
Once all the smart creative types left because of their authoritarian practices, it just feels like a hollow shell of its former self. Due to all the bots of course, I expect the others still there to slowly leave as the quality degrades further
Where did the creative types go though?
the larger subs are mostly AI /most of it. AITA, AITAH, i think boys and girls dinner diaries are AI generated too similar to AITA.
maybe because they start with "AI"?
I'm pretty convinced GDD was spawned from a content farm likely in India. Reddit pays for successful content now which just incentivized a bunch subs to orient towards rage bait content. GDD walks the line between open sexism and normal venting,, mostly just to piss people off and bait engagement.
Whats gdd? God damn dinosaurs?
Girl dinner diaries
Ahh yeah. I'm pretty skeptical of all the ones that werent front pagers before the banpocalypse. That place seems so fake now.
AITA/AITAH/AIO, were the OG ones, im guessing people were calling it out as fake and AI, so it got switched up adding a little maybe alittle to sexist.
its a hybrid of twosexchrosomes, and " i ovvereact like i did in AITA towards a guy/girl"
Using AI to moderate a platform with 90% bots, sure.
As long as it increases their value they don't care. Till it comes out it is all bots.
its going to be "Ai incest" AI on AI moderating each other, fighting.
It's always sad seeing AI on AI crime.
They also gate old.reddit behind logins now. More reasons to never return.
shreddit costs money now, but Power Delete Suite will still let you delete your post history on the way out.
https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite
At present it only works in a Chromium-based browser.
Probably it's not really deleted but at least it stops your posts from adding value to the reddit's public-facing side.
You're behind the times, even logging in isn't sufficient now. You have to reset to old reddit in preferences now every time you log in.
I use LibRedirect when I have to go there. https://redlib.catsarch.com/ is my preferred frontend.
it still works on waterfox, and other forks. on mobile. i use sink it extensions, or yeoldreddit(and the old reddit switcher) the extension makes old reddit usable on mobile.
Can’t be much worse than what they currently have. Automated trash = human trash.
It’s gonna be automated neoliberal LLM to ban and shadow ban anyone that doesn’t agree with the corporate status quo.
They always always always avoided paid moderators, to their detriment. Now they are giving AI a go to be worse than automod.
they want MOds to play ball, most wont. so thier answer is having AI mods, overriding mods i assume. its essentially turning into FB 2.0.
What are mods refusing to do that they want to make them do at this point? The protest years ago ended within a couple of days and nothing happened.
they wernt doing what SPEZ is asking most of the time.
I mean, a bunch of us are here. It might not have been earth-shattering, but it'd be quite self-defeating to say our little community is "nothing."
The Fediverse received quite a boost from Reddit's fuckery. We may not be "mainstream," but I imagine a lot of us prefer it this way.
I bet
Fuck u/spez
Is hardcoded into some sort of ghost ban
It’s already automated by trash AI.
Fuck Reddit and Fuck Spez.
Poster, moderator and consumer now
this has been happening for some time already. bans after saying a wrong word happen immediately within a few seconds
I got hit by a word filter too. Each individual word was SFW but the combination could be interpreted as hateful (even though it wasn't in context). So they have some sort of intent-matching system that is poorly implemented, probably piping it through the cheapest haiku model they can access.
not evenposting, even "looking" at your browser wrong is enough. if the AI assumes your account is botting or something it will ban it.
many times when i started new accounts there they were immediately shadow banned without any notification
they seem to have laid off the pressure though as of late, they realized too late that thier bannings were reducing traffic to the site, thus AI-data mining content. although they did not decrease thier ability to detect methods of people using hundreds of accounts at once though, and seem to selectively choose which keywords to ban. also i notice switching between different browsers(forks) may trigger the same thing. my last account(that was 11years old was shadowbanned last year, i kept it alive because i was appealing for a couple months. recently deleted it, and made an acc a month ago, havnt seen a ban YET? corrobated by another user on lemmy, time will tell becaus ei accidentally did switch browsers. im guessing reddit scrutinized serial ban evaders, who also spams to drive people to thier own website or AI more heavily. reddit is intentional ignores propaganda bots though.
same IP/same device, i think they will still likely ban, but if changed up any of this, they wont notice right away(not all the case though). i only use the new acct for NICHE content i cant find here(none of the big SUB nonsense).
also time will tell when they fully deploy thier forced LOGINs(as not all browsers are affected by the popups, slowdowns),t hey are figuring how to get around the other browsers still able to force old reddit and the extensions.
Days without hearing a single thing that has made me want to visit Reddit: however old this account is
Now instead of a faceless notification destroying your account with no explanation, it will be a faceless notification destroying your account with no explanation AND destroy a bit more of the ecosystem.
WCGW?
something already did, with the drop in traffic in reddit, due to AI not scraping it as much anymore. reddit is trying to force logins now.
What’s Reddit? [trollface]
Can't actually be worse than the human powertripping mods lol.
A friend of mine left Reddit recently over this kind of thing after being an avid member for years but...
He joined X? He's got terrible taste.
That's what I'm struggling with. X is awful, Reddit is awful, tumblr is awful, and I can't think of a 4th established platform that fills the nich. This is the closest, which is why I am here.
Anyone progressive are mostly now on Mastadon.
Tumblr is but a ghost town with mostly the terminally online. Last time I checked, someone I follow years ago was lately reposting almost everything.
The funniest part to me is he'll share a meme or comic and 90% of the time I actually saw it on Lemmy first, lol. Only exceptions are super niche. Basically if it's viral there, it's viral here.
Something that became very obvious to me when Shorts became so popular - the mega platforms have an endless supply of low quality content they can keep feeding you so long as you keep coming back. The actual good stuff should only last the typical person 30-60 minutes per day, if you spend longer than that, you're mostly looking at lazy slop.
So yeah the good stuff that does well on Reddit/X, also does well here. But there's less content so it's easier to feel like I "ran out", but in a good way. I ran out of low quality time wasting slop.
They're only now doing this? Feels to me like this must have happened 2 years ago?
This is probably just them openly admitting it.
since last year at the least, when they were us AI to moderate the bans. im guessing they are trying to fully control subs with only AI mods, rather than Human/AI bot hybrid system.
Reddit is bots. Bots moderating bots, OK, use that electricity baby. We have an old expression for this, though: Garbage In Garbage Out.
So the moderation quality will fall off the cliff. GG well played
the moderation quality fell off a cliff ages ago
this is boring a hole to the center of the earth
But where to fall to once it arrives there?
OH NO, the fat human mods are going to be unemployed /s
Ooo. I might have to go make a new Reddit account just to fuck with this "Rules Hub".
One side effect of all the pushes to verify ID is that it's more likely a website (such as reddit) would have a real identity. For at least a little while we're living in a world where an AI could flag a post as "suicidal ideation" or something along those lines, and a completely automated system passes the info down the chain to local PD. This increases the likelihood of things like involuntary 72 hour holds, etc. and there aren't any forces currently with any power that are going to stick their neck out and assume the "AI" is wrong.
Of course you could fight it only to find out some unauditable AI set a bit in a database. Reddit has a history with one of the previous admins editing the backend database to suit reddit at least once that we know of.
I wonder if it can tell the difference between someone talking about a transmission, and someone talking about a transvestite?
Because that would definitely be an improvement if it can.
probably will confuse it with transgender, transgenic, transnational,,,etc.
So, how long till this just deletes the trove of old information reddit still has? I can only see this destroying the last reasons for going there
once AI only Subs become more pervasive, is when people stop visiting, but that likely is going to be gradual. spammers/ are already salivating at the thought using this.
the info is too valuable to them. thats why they wanna force logins, to make people have genuine content being posted, due to thier drop in traffic recently, they are panicking. Also the fact they did were banning left and right of genuine users last year.
as if they arnt using AI to moderate subs, but they probably want a sub with only AI in it.
🤖👺 As a human being I think we should be nice to the bots.
This is simultaneously new and inevitable
Literally everything is better than the current moderators
It's going to be the current mods with ai.
