Best places to meet lgbt friends?
Where are the best places to make new friends who happen to be in the community? I don't really have any non-straight friends, and there no gay bar/clubs,/etc in this area at all, as I live in the south. My whole life, I've felt like an outsider living on an island. I'm 34, so it feels like I wasted my opportunities. I always hear stuff like, it being impossible to make connections after 30..is that just nonsense, or is it really like that?

I just feel that conmecting after 30 becomes not harder but just more selctive. Because since everyone there knows themselves more thoroughly as 30+ year old adults they know more thoroughly wjo they will reject from their friend group(s) or thrust into. their friend grroup(s)
So Ill say it hasnt becoeme harder , its just that you become better at excluding bigoted fascists who could more easily hide their true evil opinions whe you were all teens or in your 20s.
Basically connecting in your 30s becomes more selective because you realiize that fascists easily connect with other fascists meanwhile you and your real friends, as a pro-LGBTQIA+ person, have become smart enough to to select in annd select out ppeople into or out of your friend groups based on what they do or say to you and your lovedd ones that proves or disproves thatt theyre bigoted fascists.
If all you do is scroll Facebook and dating apps then yeah it's impossible.
If you want to meet people you have to go places people are. Every town and City that has a bar has a gay bar. You just got to find it. Trivia nights are a great way to test out bars. If you don't have a community that can direct you. Also, other community groups like mutual aid groups tend to be more queer friendly.
The kink community also has a large number of queer folks participating.
The other nice thing about the kink community is they put on a lot of vanilla events just for social reasons. Things like munches in my area. Kayaking, canoeing, hiking, game nights. Often just joining the community. Will let you see calendars and events posted.
But again the critical thing is you have to go and you have to talk to people. Otherwise you probably won't connect.
I really wish that first part were true. The closest gay bar near me is 45min+ away. Otherwise that is good advice though. I'll seek out basic social groups i think. There just isn't much here besides typical bars full of prejudice rednecks.
Also Id recommend you avoid online events. Not a single oerson I met from those online meetup events has remained in contact with me.
A few of the ones I met in-person have done so however....
That's nonsense, from experience. In fact, I feel like I have an easier time making connections in my 30s since we're all adults.
It really depends on where you live and what your hobbies are. Search online for local queer groups who participate in said hobbies
I agree.

There are lots of apps that have come out recently specifically for the purpose of getting people to events. My personal favorite has been Meetup which has introduced me to everything from foraging classes, to weird movies, and even holiday festivals I didn't know existed.
I highly recommend checking out Meetup and going to some of the LGBTQ+ events that are hosted around you. You'll meet lots of really cool people!
Thanks, I'll definitely give meetup a chance.
