The Cold War by Kings & Generals on YouTube has lots of excellent videos / "minidocs" on the cold war era. They have many covering both West and East Germany, as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall + reunification.
They're still internet videos though, they give you brief summaries that encourage you to explore for further details, so I can also recommend reading and listening to the other suggestions!

If you want to know why the east is still lagging behind economically, I highly recommend watching episode 47 of satire show "Die Anstalt": https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLhtjufTH4Nq7HmHVcgA1XCKbpBSgrSYb-
Unfortunately I don't see any subtitle options on this, maybe you can find it somewhere else.
Found the whole thing (so not just snipplets) here: https://vimeo.com/466766430?__cf_chl_tk=l_R0.TZ3y4FsH6M9ej9MLSjyTV.XfBZW22XbRw3JGrQ-1789843867-1.0.1.1-7EBGisc8bj2vp3Ej9D7HNEmiIsSqIb983Jn8jb5eBmg Still no subtitles though
Thank you for the recommendation!
A little more broad than just reunification but it chronicles a chunk of it from a GDR point of view: Katya Hoyer Beyond The Wall.
Thank you! I am hoping to learn the history, ideally put into the broader context of Germany before wwii, up through 20 years ago or so
She wrote another book on the Empire, which is also good.
