This is the best summary I could come up with:

But with a range of slopes running from expert “black” to beginner “green” and relatively cheap ski passes, it was popular with families seeking more of a low-key Alps experience than offered by bigger, higher-altitude destinations.

Dalex said that the resort, which also markets itself as a summer hiking and outdoors destination, will instead become a place for “discovering and protecting nature, going on walks, doing sports, if possible.”

A report published in January in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal found a “substantial possibility” of global temperature rises crossing this 2-degree Celsius threshold by mid-century.

La Sambuy’s Dalex said that “all winter sports resorts in France are impacted by global warming,” particularly those at a medium mountain altitude between 1,000 and 1,500 meters.

The petition has acquired more than 1,900 signatures and, according to Christian Bailly, the president of the association, the group is taking legal action to reverse the town council’s decision.

He said that “global warming is evidently underway” and happening “even faster than scientists predicted.” He said it was increasingly difficult for ski resorts to function, with many being “forced to adapt” to a new climate.

The original article contains 730 words, the summary contains 193 words. Saved 74%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

For those wondering, the petition is to keep the resorts open by changing certain elements of how they work. I really like this bot, but sometimes it cuts too much out of its summaries.

The difference between taking a fall on snow and solid ground cannot be understated.

Really feels like my local slopes have gotten worse and worse as the years pass. That being said, the owners continue to invest in it. They built a new lift this year.

Not that climate change isn't a big deal, but this place only opened in 2016. Seems to me they just picked a bad spot in the first place.

Edit: Leaving this up so other people see, the resort opened in 1960 not 2016. CNN messed up.

Heal from what? They were skiing, not ploughing.

Ski resorts require a lot of deforested space. These trees can now grow back.
