Convicted sex offender offered opening prayer at rally for GOP Senate nominee in North Carolina

A pastor kicked off a recent campaign stop for Michael Whatley, the Republican nominee for Senate, with a prayer that asked God to bestow “integrity and honesty” upon the event and to right wrongs “hammered down on the conservative movement.”

The prayer was hardly unusual by North Carolina political standards. What was surprising was the man who delivered it. Pastor Daimon L. King is a registered sex offender, twice sentenced to prison for convictions involving children, according to state and court records.

From the title I thought it was Trump giving a speach and was wondering why this is news.

That's an absolutely valid take. Mine was such a headline was so vague that could literally be anyone at a GOP event. Most of them are serial offenders and a few are sofa offenders.

If we lived in a world with headlines that accurate I'd be wondering what alternative dimension I'd fallen into first.

Remember, the suspicion that a trans person might be a pedophile is more important than the fact that a Conservative on the sex offender registry is DEFINITELY a pedophile.

My barber is trans. I can confirm that he is constantly wanting to cut off parts of my body. I think he's coming for my penis next! Please send help!

If they're a child sex offender, say that. I hate how the media softens impacts that shouldn't be softened these days

Off-topic, but the media also can't say "anthropogenic global warming" either, because that points out what's going on, warming, globally, and also points out what's causing it, humans. "Climate change" doesn't say anything about warming, where it's happening, or what's causing it. Much more palatable for those who dislike the very concept.

So it is with "sex offender". It doesn't indicate what happened (rape) or anything about who it happened to (a child) or how many times it happened (twice in this case). "Repeat child rapist" would be uncomfortable for the public to hear and might put them off the Republican party, unless that is they were already in the party and enjoying the criminal benefits of membership.

"Climate change" doesn't say anything about warming

I think climate change is just more accurate than focusing on warming... Things outside aren't just getting warmer, it's also going to get colder and generally more extreme

It is another example of this softening though...I think "anthropological climate destabilization" would be much more descriptive

In fairness, the main speaker at the Dallas midterm RNC is also a convicted sex offender and a pedophile. It's a Republican tradition.

Maybe he's planning on moving there and wants to kill two birds with one stone. He can have his little book club meeting or whatever and notify them of his status as a sex offender all at once.
