To me it seems that the only drawback is that they also did away with bib re-sale. There doesn't seem to be any info on what happens to the slot if a runner commits, pays for the bib, and then DNS's. Seems like a waste of a bib.
What are you talking about? You can sell your bib if you know you won't run, I did that just last week...
Did you read the article? It specifically says they will be ending that practice.
