The Ernest movies were an ever present at the video shop in The late 80s. They looked terrible and I never hired them. I saw one on TV in the late 90s and realised I’d completely missed out. Yes the movies were formulaic but Jim Varney was hilarious.

mom absolutely loved his movies, so we never missed 'em.

On a recent vacation we made a side trip on the way home to visit Jim Varney's grave in Lexington Kentucky! It was the prettiest graveyard I think I've ever seen!

Classic Shakespearean actor turned into amazing nice guy Everyman. He was a gem. Ernest Goes To Camp is the first and only movie I have cried during.

Jim Varney was also a smoker. But he went to great lengths to try to avoid kids seeing him doing it.

those were the days, back when netflix gave a month free to new accounts. even when you used a prepaid card, they tacked on the extra month.
