Removing the hardware would make me so nervous about it never fitting tight again. Do you have plans for that?

Did similar projects - it's not a problem. Screws will go back in without trouble, and if the screw hole had widened over the years then simply add some soft wood (matchsticks are my favourite for that, and toothpicks are also fine but a bit harder) and a tiny amount of wood glue. Nails are another beast but they follow the same procedure and often sit tight and strong after being nailed back in.

Awesome, good to know. I’ve never done such work myself, but I’ve always wondered how people manage it.
