From “the Antichrist trying to deceive you” to “the actual Antichrist”

From: Feeling cute, might answer summons later.

To: I have escaped your circle! Cower before my power and flee for your lives as I consume the world.

Seems to be a super old breed, like I couldn't even find a guess at when they were established.

But they were just the generic goat for a big area where both goats were important, and established trade routes allowed a high degree of genetic variation at first. But then the adults that were allowed to reproduce were always the ones who produced the most milk and meat.

Absolutely zero care about how an adult looked, zero aesthetics. If that weird ass adult look wasn't tied to something that makes more milk and cheese, it wouldn't be that weird.

However the breeders know all things being equal, customers would pay more for a goat that didn't look like ass.

So when choosing which to breed, you pick the most aesthic looking goats hoping for a higher price for the offspring. But with those weird ass adult dreams (almost certainly) increasing milk/meat yield, and everyone wanting to buy the milk goat that looks least hideous...

That split between infant and adult makes sense.

Might as well be a first stage evolution Pokémon it looks so different.

Hippos.

I mean look at this cute little shit…

He’s going to grow up to be a 3-ton water-borne death machine.

That is a cute picture, but also this is a pygmy hippo, which are just cute hippos. It's like saying "baby horses are the cutest animals!" And posting a baby pony as proof

When I was four or five I went to the zoo with school, when we were being told about Canadian Geese my teacher asked where they were from. Canadian Geese have come up one time too many today for me not to tell that story.

Dude, Hyinas are fucking huge. You see them on TV and they're small compared to stuff around it. They're closer to taller than a person by a few feet.

Alligators stay kinda cute looking. I took pictures of this guy at my work until management had him removed.

I grew up with a pet alligator, she got to around 5ft. Spent a good portion of her life sleeping under my bed and she'd walk herself to the tub when she wanted a swim. They're cute as the dickens and she actually had an amazing temperment.

Somebody already beat me to gosling, but have another

And another. This is the same bird a month later.

For me kittens are like passing through the other side of cuteness. Cats are very cute, kittens are just too much.

You know in futurama when bender orders a statue of "ridiculous proportions" built, then when it's done he's like, "no, that's too big, try again and this time don't embarrass yourselves.'

That's how i feel about kittens. No, that's too cute. Try again and this time don't embarrass yourself.

17

Cats, obviously. Like yeah cats are cute, but kittens are the cutest thing in the world.

Y'all gonna hate me, but dogs. Most dogs are absolutely hideous creatures, but puppies are usually legitimately pretty cute.

There’s plenty of less than glowing adjectives for dogs but “hideous” is a real choice

Yes, it turns out dogs are not universally beloved. Unfathomable, I'm sure.

Shitzhu adults are "a learned taste" but puppies are the cutest of all breeds.

1

In this theme: rats.
Rats are like baby ferrets, but less aggressive hehe
( i know ferrets are generally not aggressive but my experience with them is the opposite... )

3
lemmy.zip

It would be significantly harder to provide the opposite.

8

Butterflies come to mind.

Caterpillars are plain & become beautiful as butterflies or full peacocks that turn into drab AF adults.

Chicks and goslings are adorable as fuck.

Some baby birds are nasty, yeah.

3

Thats the difference between altrical and precocial species. Precocial birds are usually pretty cute because they need fluffy feathers to stay warm outside of their nest. Altrical birds looke like plucked chicken because their parents keep them warm for a while.

The ugly duckling is canonically ugly until it grows up

I'll bring the answer to the opposite question: owls (particularly Megascops, Bubo and Athene genera) are much cuter as adults. The owlets lack the plumage that makes the owls more embodied.

4

I was planning on making a separate post tomorrow asking the opposite ;)

And flying insects, like moths and flies. They all start out as wriggly worm like things.

As far as humans vs other great apps go, I've heard it's because of humans and their giant heads. In a perfect world humans would have longer pregnancies to let babies develop more, but 9 months is pretty much the cutoff because their heads get so huge. As a consequence human babies are exceptionally useless and underdeveloped when they're born (among apes at least).

1

Or several kinds of rodent pups. Or marsupial joeys.

If it comes hair/featherless it's probably not our jam. Which is ironic, considering we're pretty hairless.

2

Guinea pig babies are pretty damn adorable, but so are adult guinea pigs. I don't know how to calculate the difference in cuteness.

No, infant humans are cute. Babies are pretty gross and need constant cleaning to not be covered in all sorts of smelly, icky bodily fluids.

Parent here. Can confirm. Newborns are gross, babies are messy, but once they are past that they gradually get better. 5yo+ can be pretty awesome.

7

I find that most take a few years to stop being pretty gross, personally.
