"Donald Trump faces backlash" if I had a buck for every time I heard that phrase I could buy a house. This phrase has lost all meaning because there's never any backlash. He'll just do something worse to distract you from all the other shit he's done and then you forget.
It’s called a gish gallop. It’s a debate tactic where you just throw as much shock nonsense out as possible as fast as possible. Your opponent (or sane humans in this case) can’t keep up with refutation or reality check. I don’t know if he has the wherewithal to know he’s doing it, but the play is to just overload with bone-chillingly-evil nonsense so some of it slips through.
