SCOTUS says Trump can impose massive changes to mail voting before midterms
From the article:
The U.S. Supreme Court handed the Trump administration a huge win Monday by allowing an executive order designed to sharply curtail mail voting to go into effect — a move California and other Democratic-led states have warned could thrust the midterm elections into chaos.
Rushing through unprecedented changes to the mail voting system will be especially challenging for California, where more than 80% of voters use mail ballots and every registered voter receives a ballot by mail.
In an unsigned ruling, apparently by a 6-3 vote, the court said the states would not show they would be harmed by the restrictions on mail voting and therefore lacked legal standing to challenge it in court.
Nothing good ever comes about from making things harder for people to vote.

Unsigned ruling what the fuck. Put your names on your votes, pussies
They're taking away my speech with their intimidation tactics with ICE/FBI.
They've now taken away my ballot box with this blatant unconstitutional ruling from a bunch of corrupt Republicans.
What do conservatives say about that other box again?
People have the rhetoric of turning to the ammo box since the other 3 don't seem to work anymore, but there doesn't seem to be much coming about from it. If the rhetoric isn't actually materializing, then people must be consenting to having their rights taken away. In that case, the ballot box is delivering exactly what the people want.
Stupid fucks overthrowing democracy off of a technicality.
If we do not prosecute and hang 4-10 people in particular for treason then we have failed.
If it's this easy to "overthrow a democracy", you never had a democracy.
Right?! It only took a superpower and a significant fraction of the world's wealth (tied up in billionaires) and complete control over the media and a blackmail network built-out over several generations, all orchestrated over half a century, to do it!
That's kind of the point of my comment, actually. Capitalism is inherently dictatorial, therefore diametrically opposed to democracy. All of those things are a direct result of capitalism.
Your point saying it was easy to overthrow, was that it was hard to overthrow?
As to your second point, yes capitalism hurt person. Nothing is strong enough to withstand those kind of attacks though. If there was any form of government yet invented that could, it would have been tried at some point and we'd still have it.
The blue states just need to enact malicious compliance. They could declare a floating public holiday called voting day, pay electoral staff penalty rates and make it a law that all workers required to work that day are given paid time off to attend a nearby voting station. They could setup a time slot booking system that lets people nominate a voting station and a timeslot with information about how many people are attending at that time so they can make informed decisions about when to attend. Could they impose a tarrif (apparently it's not a tax) on political parties so that a percentage of their donations need to go to supporting the local elections. Republican billionaires want to buy elections? Whoops all democracy.
It’s democrats we are talking about lol cmon now
lol the opposition to the party with evil plans is the party with no plans.
*controlled opposition
A man can dream =(
hakeem jeffries doesn’t believe in voting day. or medicare for all.
Luckily he's federal so hopefully the state governments are a little less gutless
Most states already have something like that in effect. Even Missouri gives you 2 or 3 hours paid time off to go vote.
Colorado has like a month to vote.
Fuck the Supreme clownshow, the damn dictatorship enablers
Another obscenely fascist sycophantic ruling from the morally destitute GOP majority on the US Supreme Court
Don't forget that at least 5 of them are easily bribed.
Can we kill them now? Like if they keep taking away our rights are they really rights anymore?
When the soap box has been ignored for decades, and the ballot box is getting manipulated by the jury box, then there’s only one box left to defend liberty.
Absolutely yes.
If you know anyone that still supports this admin fart in there general direction
Time to spin up state post offices real quick.
Maybe an alternative is to push out ballots to all the local libraries to pick up - add all your identifying information to it - then drop off at collection boxes (as we have always been able to do).
At least in Colorado, where we have sensible voting - if the orange ape has compliant little shits that don't deliver our ballots, the state needs to come up with alt ways to get the ballot to us and libraries might be perfect for that.
Give us a month to pick them up at a library or other locations, leisurely read them over at home and fill them out, without any threats from some ICE goon, and then, over the course of weeks, drop off whenever we damn well please, as we always have.
I sure hope we find a great way to do an end-run around these devious little pricks on the right.
Sharing information is a whole hell of a lot more useful than whatever it is you think you're doing.
And really the people here reading that comment are aware people. Keyboard warriors are not the problem. It’s the droves of unaware or uncaring folk out there that are the problem. Media (the wealthy) do not want them to know, so they remain unaware or ambivalent whilst democracy gets ripped and torn to shreds for profit and power. Blech.
And when the Untied States is finally indisputably a dictatorship, a lot of Americans as well as other people around the world will still be fucking oblivious
Is the next episode of Ted Lasso out yet?
