I don't know if I'd made that connection before, but I like it!

Boobooks would certainly be inclined to tales of the supernatural. Fellow boobook, the Barking Owl, is also known as "The Screaming Woman" due to some of its calls, and may be to blame for people looking to help this supposed distressed woman and then getting lost in the forest or marshes, sometimes to never return!

Is it pronounced boo-book or boob-ook? Neither really sound right for an owl...

"Boo" and then something between "boo," "book," and "buck."

With them being spread between Australia and East and South Asia, you've got quite a range of accents to choose from.

I use the "ook" like when I'd say book or cook.
