It's not bad from Toledo. The 5:22 boarding is rough, but you get to Chicago around 8:45. Train back home is either 6pm or 8pm. It's perfect for a day trip out and you don't have to worry about parking your car

Chicago's Amtrak station was under construction last year and parts of it are pretty confusing to navigate. Still better than an airport.
Tbf the Amtrak from La Crosse, WI to Chicago is actually pretty decent
