According to the comments found here, it took them eleven years.
No idea about the actual number of hours of total work, but either way it is hella impressive to keep going for more than a decade. Most people I know would have given up or lost interest after a month or so.
My heart dropped. 11 years is an insanely long time. Reminds me of the guy who has been building nyc block by block in a museum as a miniature for a long part of his life.
