Decriminalize Abortion

The expanding surveillance and criminalization of mutual aid, self-managed care, and bodily autonomy, and the growing attempts to criminalize pregnant people, parents, and health care providers have far-reaching ramifications beyond abortion criminalization that require us to join together to collectively resist!

Hundreds of restrictive bills have been proposed, many passed, including the Texas law (SB8) that not only bans abortion after six weeks, but deputizes civilians to police each other’s reproductive decisions. Such laws are just the latest examples in a long history of criminalizing bodily autonomy, especially for Black, Indigenous, migrant, disabled, queer, and trans people, and people with low incomes who will experience the harshest impacts of anti-abortion legislation.

This brief offers an analysis of how our movements are connected, and how to push back against a widening web of criminalization.

This is an older document with references to a history of legal rights being stripped long preceeding the current Trump administration. However, the information is still valuable and can be applied to other countries as well.

That's utterly, thoroughly disgusting IMO.

I feel like as a wannabe-student of history, I know what this flows directly out of, and TL;DR it's a power-grab, hierarchy-grab, and gender-grab.

I.e., it's a complete gut-punch and massive betrayal to who we are at core, across the history of human-kind.

@Wren since you tagged it feminism, would you care to explain his that's related to abortion? Because I'm sick of people that assume children only have one parent. Until it becomes about paying for the child, then it's also one parent, but the other one now

I want to be clear here, are you asking me how feminism is related to abortion?

This ducks account seems like a bot and why do theykeep putting @wren in their reply to you. Sounds like it was programmed wrong

It's because they're on mastodon. Some users from different platforms see and use the fediverse differently. You'll notice them around.

Sure. Because women, or anyone capable of giving birth, deserve bodily autonomy. Done.

@Wren glad we both agree it's about individual freedom and not because gender and "race" superiority mumbo jumbo. Friendly reminder that individual freedom and dare I say family rights is not the same thing as feminism

I don't get your point. What exactly are you trying to say?

@Wren nothing different than what I said in my first message. Just a complaint about the label you put on the personal freedom ideology

-4

I didn't put a label on anything. I posted this to the feminism community because the content of the link has to do with the criminalization of abortion, something that disproportionately affects women.

So I don't understand your complaint.

@Wren which to be clear means more "family" in this case if we're talking functional couple in good health. In case of disagreement then the abortion should prevail regardless of what's between the legs of that person. In no case governments should stick their nose into this matter, regardless of what's between the legs of the current president, king or queen
