Aromantic Rule

::: spoiler Alt Text Cover for a Chuck Tingle novel titled Absolutely No Thoughts Of Pounding During My Fun Day With This Kind T-Rex Because I’m Aromantic And Asexual And That’s A Wonderfully Valid Way Of Proving Love Is Real.

The image features two girls standing against the backdrop of what looks like a vineyard. The girl on the left has pink hair and is wearing a black dress with matching black hat and jacket. The other girl has red hair and is wearing jeans, a striped shirt, and a denim jacket. She has been crudely edited with green-tinted skin and the head of a dinosaur composited over her face. :::

Tingle is so cool that he went out of his way to replace a stock image of a skeleton on the cover of one book because said image might have been AI-generated.

I think so, yeah. A wonderful aspect of this affair is, anyone who's seen Tingle's book covers knows that they have a particular slapdash quality about them in the first place — which makes this act even more deliberate.

Lol I tried to write tentacle porn in highschool and I'm still writing it but it wasn't porn for a while because essentially this. Then BG3 had an illithid sex scene that pissed me off (illithid has a penis for some reason and enjoys fucking with it which is also dumb because you can get dick anywhere that's not why you'd fuck an illithid and as stated that's not what an illithid would get out of fucking you).

Now I'm considering adding a sex scene back in (in which most of what the illithid gets out of it is listening to the memories and sensory info of the person enjoying getting eaten out with their tentacles. Right now there's like. One mention in the chapter I just wrote, and if I was really going to add it in I'd need to plan pretty carefully for it to make sense (although it would come out suuuper trippy in some other ways because of where the story went in some other areas).

Anyway I have the outline written all the way through the end if anybody wants to know how it ends in exchange for beta reading but here's what's on ao3 so far.

I'm glad we still have authors in our midst nowadays.

For VERY different reasons than most of the people pissed off by it. Completely valid ones, too! 🫡

Has anyone actually read these books? What is the actual content? Are they competent in their goal as smut?

I mean, if you're turned on by the imagery of hooking up with your own flying butt, then maybe. Iirc the butt is a top, btw.

I'm asking if it seems like there is intent to create an actually erotic or romantic mood despite the more outlandish subjects? Or is it tongue-in-cheek and played for laughs, in the vein of parodies where "Chad's sack gurgled with desire and activated FMC's womanly urges"?

The one or two stories that I've read are surreal rather than straightforwardly romantic. However he has a whole lot of stories, so I can't speak for all of them and only hope that there's some variety.

I read a preview of "Now That I'm A Ghost, I'm Gay" that played it surprisingly straight, pun not intended

Years ago at CONvergence (a really excellent sci-fi/fantasy con in Minneapolis) they put on a theatrical version of a Chuck Tingle novel about an independent flying butt.

Sadly, it made no sense to me whatsoever and I left halfway through. But the rest of the audience seemed to be enjoying it a lot.

🤷

Don't fact check this but I'm pretty sure aroaces accounted for 50% of all kills in WW2

You reached the end
