Partial really is "kinda neat." The light level noticeably reduces a bit, like a very big cloud, and all the little dapples on the ground turn crescent shaped. More eerie than mind-blowing though. We got a minute of totality in 2024, which was very, very cool.

Unfortunately, 4:47pm (eta: I was off by an hour, it's 5:47pm, was reading UTC) local time isn't looking good, and it's way too late to try and get a car and drive to the Westfjords
I mean, the actual eclipse is on the 12th, so unless this is from a previous solar eclipse, having a solar eclipse party 9 days after the actual eclipse is pretty weird.

To add to the FYI, there's a partial eclipse tomorrow evening in Europe. The farther north you are the better you can see it.
Partial is pointless, really. Which is why I have to hope it'll be visible here in Iceland.

It's actually kind of messed up that we don't.
Why?
The absolutely maximum time you could be in totality during a solar eclipse is 7 minutes and 32 seconds, across a very very narrow path of land.
Partial eclipses are cool, but not really worth taking any time out of your day for.
If you’re in the path, taking all of less than 10 minutes to walk outside and see it covers it lol.

There is no total solar eclipse in the contiguous US until 2044.
