Lmao abused by a mod on the abuse hotline. Maybe it sounded a little pointed since its just text but wtf a ban? Lmao

Hot damn a ban for that? I haven't looked at your history, which could change my opinion, but damn that seems harsh.

I personally don't think you did anything, maybe tone was slightly harsher than it needed to be, but that's all I see. Hardly worth a ban. Ban for me as a mod is like you systematically bothered my users or went on a racist tirade or something.

I mean, even IF my history had awful things, this was my first time interacting with that Comm and it was in an effort to help someone obviously new to Lemmy. Seeing harshness in my message is evidence that we all read things differently.

Nah, if you had a history of awful things and came in it would make me read your comment differently.

That said, I saw no harshness in there.

But I will say that your activity outside of a comm is definitely a factor for me as well. I won't preemptively ban, but it will mean way less leeway being given.

No, it wouldn't be different unless he has a history of victim blaming

You really believe banning or removing someone post/comment for the wrong reason is right?

You know how you throw a party, and that one drunk neighbor shows up, pisses on your shrubbery, and cops a feel off your mom?

It's okay to escort him out the door when he shows up at your cousin's bat mitzvah before he can cause trouble there.

It's pretty weird over on lemmy.sdf and I try to just take qrstuv (EDIT: this was wesker, not qrstuv. Wesker also gets up to some trolling) as some odd performance art. Funhole, Linux Surrealism, and bun alert are great, but most every other community is run by qrstuv, and they can be oddly tyrannical outside of Funhole. Their entire account is practically digital performance art. EDIT: Wesker tends to be a little bit more "normal" rather than too weird to die all the time, but there's still a ton of lighthearted in-joking and trolling going on.

I'm pretty sure that community was originally created by qrstuv to bait someone who was being shit in the Funhole community into complaining about the legitimate moderation actions taken against them, then see how long it took them to realize they were being responded to by the very person who banned them.

My take would be that, yes, it is absurd to call correcting terminology victim blaming, and that's the "joke".

EDIT: I'd actually check the mod log to see if any action was taken against you besides a trolling comment. Would be willing to bet there isn't actually.

Also, the joke of going: "Item A: blah, Item 2: blah" should be pointed out.

It's not a legitimate mod abuse community, it's effectively a -jerk style comm for shitposting around the theme.

Wow, that is a lot of very specific stuff to know that I would never have guessed. I can’t decide if this means I don’t spend enough time on here or if I need to spend way less.

23

ಠ.ಠ

Huh... That is really deep in the in-joke nonsense weeds, thank you very much for filling us in on what the hell happened here, I'd have had no ability to ascertain any of this without your explanation

I don't moderate that community anymore. I was forcibly removed in a coup. I said some things, people didn't like the things, and I was removed and banned myself for a while.

8

that's easy, there's one plan for each planet of the solar system.

2

This is what I suspected from the mod comments on the post. I can't decide if it's dumb or funny, but it's good to know that is what it's meant to be.

2

There's a Mitchell and Webb sketch about the Apprentice being full of idiots, for an audience of idiots. At the end, they note there are some non-idiots who watch out of a sense of irony.

"And remind me, how do these ironic non-idiots show up in the ratings?"
"They show up the same, my friend."

So I'm not feeling much better knowing this is a mod abuse done ironically.

2

I think that's a troll community, right? The problem here is that you ate the onion.

My suspicion is that the sub is so tightly wound against "victim blaming" (aka, "not instantly agreeing with OP") that any correction is seen as opposition. My other suspicion, from looking at the comm and how often they mock this one, is that they tried and failed to play the victim here, and decided to make their own mod abuse comm with blackjack and hookers. ...Can we pretend I was calling Not Dr Wesker submissive? Please?

The good doctor has been a very, very naughty doctor and will take their punishment like the dirty little pig boy they are.

I’m serious about the new “no victim blaming” rule. This is a safe space. This isn’t Ye Hippie Dippin’ Bastards where the village idiots are allowed to weigh in with their acronyms. Victim blaming is a banable offense now.

That is a direct quote from a pinned mod message.

Ah, I see. It's a comm for defiant oppositional disorder-havers.

16

I can't wait until the chuds find out the comm where they get to bellyache for being banned for being chuds and everyone gets banned for pointing out it was for bigotry.

8

That community is a giant troll. EVERYTHING is victim blaming there, which means nearly everyone gets banned. Got myself banned quite a while back for practically nothing lol

19

everyone's trying to figure out where the victim blaming is, I'm more baffled by "you don't know that"

we don't know that communities are called communities? we don't know that subreddits are on reddit? I guess we need this mod to drop a list of the things we're allowed to know

19

I only saw the top of the image before coming to the comments. I was thinking to myself, who tf calls them sub reddits on lemmy? (eww that word...)

And that's exactly what you said. I woulda gotten a ban too I guess.

16

Yeah I don't know what their deal is but they're some kind of troll. I don't think PTB is quite right, but it's close enough.

11

The mods comment makes absolutely so sense. I want to think it was meant as a response to something else but it kinda just doesn't make sense in general.

9

Haha, some people just have a stick up their ass.

Lots of sophist bullshit like this gets tossed around these days, so people can rationaloze being an ass.

lemmy.world

Mod abuse hotline is a circlejerk creation. It's not a place to call out mod abuse, it's a call for the mods to abuse you.

A play on words and interpretations...

7

That's an odd community. They don't like this one very much and they like to comment something about pooping in jail. It's either teenagers or performance art.

6

We really need a clueless user acronym lol. Or maybe noob user? I dunno, something to cover when the situation is just a matter of stepping in a cow patty while walking in your living room. Wtf is it doing there? Oh, my brother is taking the piss again.

Some communities aren't exactly normal, but you'd have to already be familiar with the fediverse and how some instances/communities are to know that you can't expect genuine discourse (be it from trolling, satire, or just batshit crazy mods/admins).

That's what you ran into here. Wesker is.... well, Wesker, and that means a lot of weird shit mingled in with some otherwise entertaining shit. You got hit with the weird shit this time. You didn't do anything wrong, you just ended up in a crack house while looking for epsom salts to soak your bunions.

Edit: also, you were correct and thank you for giving that information to someone with good manners the way you did :). Some folks get nasty about it

5

Just got banned for calling out a zionazi who deny the genocide in gaza and along anybody else who support the mod rightful actions

Somebody should troll and make a post about how they as a mod abuses their power

Respectfully, both parties here have a stick up their ass. Nobody cares about correct Lemmy terminology, it's a clone of reddit, of course people use the same terms on here as well.

Relevant classic pic from 4chan

-11
lemmus.org

Using the term "subreddit" is indeed confusing as i thought they rant about reddit, not lemmy.

22

Yea I wouldn't think twice if someone said "sub" or "sublemmy", but "subreddit" would be confusing anywhere that isn't reddit

8

I guess the fact that was from 4chan should have been enough warning for me to assume it had a homophobic slur in it, but for anyone else not expecting it, it does.
