Is there a place where I can ask questions specifically about Lemmy? Is here fine?
basically, new to this site and have a few questions but i can't find a subreddit to specifically ask questions about lemmy on.

Honestly, those questions might be too smart for this community.
All kidding aside, I don't think anyone's going to flame you for posting them here. Lemmy can be a bit confusing when you first join, people are normally decently chill about it.

i was mainly wondering if there was any ways/areas on lemmy to find more text based posts. because it seems like 95% of posts are an image or a link with a headline, but when i was on reddit sometimes i liked to rant or go on diatribes and read other people's personal stories.
also it seems like for text posts dont show the text body on the page, you have to click them to view the body and i liked on reddit how you could kind of read part of the body and see partially what they're saying before clicking. i feel like lemmy needs this.
The Voyager app on android let's you do this

It works on the web too, I just added a link to it's GitHub page to my original comment, which links to the other versions

asklemmy is explicitly not a support community, so that sort of question is usually locked and removed. Its more for open-ended discussion questions.
I think most of those sorts of questions get posted to instance-specific support communities. For lemmy.world, that's ![email protected] .

Still instance-specific support communities, I think. I don't know that there's any better place for questions about Lemmy.
Hmm. Not all reddit-like fediverse software is Lemmy. Currently I think it's Piefed, kbin and Lemmy. Although I'm sure "reddit-like" is debatable and there's more.
I'd search your community list for "Fediverse" or "Lemmy" and check the description and subscriber count for what seems like a best fit. For example, I'd assume your questions would be welcome in ![email protected] and get many eyeballs
