For daycares, depending on age, you need 1:3 - 1:5 workers per child, then there's a cook, janitor, secretary, accountant, and supervisor. There's a butt load of insurance costs, and there's lease, and supplies. Installing a playground is also annoyingly expensive. It really does add up. I've seen the books of a non-profit daycare. No one is making bank.
They shouldn't be for profit anyway. They should be basic services provided by the government, paid for by taxes. The uber-wealthy aren't paying their fair share and that's why so much money is missing .
