Anyone else try to show Lemmy to their friends only for the wrong side of Lemmy to scare them off?

My friend's on reddit a lot, uses it for support questions and reviews mostly, but got fed up with the bullshit toxicity there.

A few days ago I suggested she check out Lemmy, there's less content, but generally fewer toxic communities and we scrolled a bit.

She checked it out, didn't understand a meme on WomensStuff, had me ask them about it, and was so put off by their responses that was the end of lemmy for her.

You're not even being clever here. You were banned from that community three days ago for breaking the rules. Does this "friend" live in Canada?

please stop following me, Velma.

If I was banned for "breaking the rules", provide some proof.

We're all here on the fediverse. I'm allowed to comment here just as you're allowed to post questions.

The proof is that the moderators banned you.

Trolling is an obvious act especially to those of us who have been on the internet for a while.

You're not as clever as you think you are.

How is a real community and a real post and evidence of all of this happening trolling?

You're not using that word correctly, Velma.

I'd have expected a .ml type of thing. Cringe. I don't know the lore behind this user but I'm guessing they were being a prick in womensstuff and this is now trolling/bait.

Just the same crap you see on Reddit, personal attacks, intolerance, mods not following the rules.

I'm gonna need way more context. I haven't used the womensstuff community because it's not a space for me. Who was being intolerant of what? Secondarily, what's the "good side" you were hoping to show off?

Someone above has linked some deleted comments, I don't know if the post is up or not.

context: I asked what a meme meant, people cursed at me, attacked me, called me "daddy" (that part was surprising), and none of the members were banned for breaking the rules.

I don't know if you ever used Reddit, but you will find that sort of behavior all over there.

Yup. A fairly normie friend liked the idea of switching from reddit. She blithely assumed as a virulently anti trump Democrat, she was a lefty because that's what almost all of popular discourse would have you believe. I don't know exactly what she said or what came back at her but as she put it "I said something wrong and had a dozen people calling me a fascist, shit lib etc. Even reddit feels less crazy."

That tracks, particularly for .ml communities. I don't think it has anything to do with women, as the OP is pointing to though.

Oh absolutely, I didn't catch any women's stuff in OP's post.

I do realise though that even though I'm a guy I've sent 3 women to the fediverse and 0 guys. I think it's because the women with whom I'm friends share more memes etc whereas the only memes from my guy buddies are in our fantasy hockey chat, and the fediverse is pretty bad for sports.

which is nuts!

I think that was the first time I ever interacted with Womennsstuff, but sometimes that roulette wheel does not pay out.

You're pouting that we picked up on your attempt at trolling as soon as you commented in there. Don't you have a better way to spend your time?

Asking a question does not make you a troll.

I understand why you want to make things up, but I am not "trolling" anyone.

Apparently I make you upset, but that's on you.

Asking a question does not make you a troll.

Oh it absolutely can. Context is a powerful thing, y'know.
