I am legit thankful that we have such an incompotent brand of fascism in the US. This would have been much harder if they'd had even a modicum of patience or cleverness instead of just cruelty.

Just 2 years and 5 months to go of trumps presidency. We're 39.6% of the way done with him. The poor in the red states will probably be dead by then, social security gone and the dollar, global trade and markets permanently ruined, but at least it'll be over. We'll undoubtedly be at war then too, with someone or another. Probably an ally.

WV was solidly blue until the MAGA cancer capitalized on neoliberal dem failures. Hopefully they see MAGA has been a bigger failure and come to their senses.

13

Im kinda with you. WV is like Fetterman. They wear blue just to vote red.

How long before MAGAs start blaming the Socialist for their hunger? "There are always hungry people under Socialism, this is what the Democrats have done to us," even though we haven't even elected any DemSocs except Mamdani and AOC, so it will their fault.

I live in Oklahoma. There are a very few people still screeching about Biden and socialism and trump's 6d chess and etc.

A vast majority are too embarassed to talk about what has happened and their part in it. Which doesn't help now, all I can do is talk to them like human beings about how this can be turned around.

14

I too live in Oklahoma as well and these fuckers removed their Trump flags but still blame anything but their choices.

I find that the dumber, more clearly demented he is, the more numbers they add. I guarantee you this Christmas if he's still alive they'll be saying he's been playing 9d chess. Next summer, 12d.

It's some kind of strange coping mechanism.

6

It's the political equivalent of "God works in mysterious ways"

4

This is what happens when Fox is basically the default news channel in your town. All you hear is Trump blaming Biden.

You rarely hear the truth. 1) The Iran war raised the price of oil and fertilizer. 2) Tariffs are paid by you, not them. 3) Undocumented migrants are the low-paid labor for the ag industry, and Trump is deporting them.

No sane person would do this shit if they wanted to make groceries cheap.

I had to do a double take at the date on that link. Unreal, yet totally believable unfortunately.

5

I will never understand how vindictive and disgusting Conservatives are.

Biden went out of his way to help red states because he didn't want people to suffer. And those people blame him for the current president fucking them over.

Let's just fucken split already and let them have their backwater country. Its not even worth it anymore. You cannot help these people. There is no cognitive function left to save.

Individual US states cant leave peacefully, or the US west coast would have long ago. Our federal laws wont allow it-- its basically declaring war. Except for texas, they made a deal when they joined that they can leave when they want to.
If Canada/Britain or Mexico would agree to take the defecting states on they'd stand a snowballs chance, but otherwise not so much.

2

Its all good, kinda feels like collapse is coming anyway. Can't leave what doesn't exist anymore.

Honestly a civil war would be much more plausible if it was geographically based. However majority of the skew is urban vs rural which makes it a lot messier and less likely.

9
lemmy.ml

So a post-apocalyptic fantasy rural frontier/urban civilization center split is fully within the realm of.possibility.

With US cities and states beibg pretty autonomous most things considered (for now at leas), it could easily happen without the US splitting as far as the world map goes.

1

In reality it's gonna look like random mass shootings.

1
lemmy.world

How so?

Wouldn't red states economies collapse if they were no longer subsidized/financed by the federal government and blue states?

19

They’ll always be good for cheap labor and no regulations. Think how we spent the last half century outsourcing everything to China or India, it’ll be even better outsourcing to a third world hellhole close to home

2

Wouldn't red states economies collapse

Yes, and they'd presumably lash out against the "blue haired woke liberals" in neighboring states. They'd be a raid-based society by the end of year one.

They would become violent almost immediately

4
lemmy.world

And then, what? They sit there and quietly starve to death?

18

They would naturally come to terms with the practical limitations of their ideology and change accordingly. Or scapegoat their neighbors and go on a murderous rampage.

I just can't muster any sympathy anymore. I feel bad for their kids, but these people gleefully voted for monsters, and don't get to act surprised when they become the monsters' victims.

60

They're monsters too (not the kids).

They've spent a decade ignoring all facts. All pleas from their family, friends, and fellow Americans to look at things objectively and reasonably. They've sacrificed everything to support a felon rapist pedophile and his sycophants. That makes them monsters too.

If they think the red states are goijng to learn any lessons at all, they will be sorely mistake.

Also, the real pain starts after mid-terms when grandmas medicade and medicare run out. Have fun moving grammy into your trailerhouse fucking red state losers.

42

I'v been watching this with something almost approaching glee.

A lot of the polling places in my red state are in nursing home lobbies. This means it is much, much easier for Ida amd Gertrude to come downstairs and vote strait republican, so they can get Ike into office or something. Some of them have no idea who they are voting for, or worse they see trimp as a towering intellect because he talks exactly like they do.

These people can vote without even going outside. The rest of us have to deal with bosses not letting people vote, or traffic, or no vehicle to get to a polling place, or any number of barriers that a senile old person in a nursing home won't have to deal with.

My glee comes from the fact that they are voting themselves homeless. Their children don't have a trailer. They may have a 2 bedroom apartment. They cannot take care of their elderly relatives, or worse, they are already caring for another. There just isn't any room for them, there isnt anyone to care for them. Everyone has to work.

By and large, the people in the nursing homes voted for this.

Soon there will be a critical mass of people who have nothing left to lose

Not when they start to starve, then they’ll just overrun the castle walls regardless of who’s in power.

1

Not quite.

The castle (the oligarchs) will hop on a plane and leave. The people who will end up lynched in the street are gonna be the people that have made something of themselves, not in the oligarch sense. Doctors, lawyers, engineers, academics. The people that live in the nicer part of town and have bigger houses.

It very difficult to comprehend the sheer scale of a billion dollars. To someone making 30k a year, someone making 150k a year looks about the same as a bezos.

1

If they'd just depart the last of the immigrants, we'd get those jobs

--Red States Probably

15

It's outrageous. We have enough food for everyone on the planet. How much gets thrown out in the name of capitalism? And these poor misguided souls still blame Biden for this. I have pity for them, but I also think they need to learn the hard way that how they vote impacts them in a million different ways. I just wish their dependants didn't have to suffer with them.

16

They deserve everything they get. I feel so sad to all of those who are against the regime but still have to suffer from these decisions. Makes my blood boil.

15
lemmy.world

Hope it hurts.

Pain is the only way conservatives can learn. Not that I'm holding my breath for them to learn anything. I'd have had to hold my breath for over 40 years now.

At this point I'm just hoping nature weeds enough of them out that they can't represent a valid voting block anymore.

10

They are going to blame Democrats.

I think Chomsky talked about this when discussing the "Angry White Male" phenomenon back in the 90s. That's why things like Faux were running at a loss for something like 5 years, why there is wingnut welfare everywhere, why hate radio is everywhere, why the Regnery Press exists, and so on.

They are happy if these people are angry (and they are justified to be angry) and then they can "educate" them as to how it's the fault of uppity women, people with degrees, liberals, people in cities, POC, gays, trans, foreigners who are not "grateful" enough, and definitely the fault of the Democrats...

9

If they can't learn, then they should at least suffer for their ignorance. The rest of us have to, because of their choices, so it should be worse for them.

1

If they are starved slowly and piecemeal then there may never be enough desperate people to act together effectively. If they are being starved quickly, then I'd wonder who is trying to aim them and where?

4

Gerrymandering and disenfranchisement means this is heavily affecting people who didn't vote for Trump, did not want this, and understand the value and need for a social safety net. But I'm glad you're doing okay.
