Such a shame it had to be there and not here… I could've had a particularly fun workout today

Ok as a lesbian I just want to say that this is not a Lollapalooza specific thing, this kind of thing is not uncommon.

Wait are you saying lesbians as a whole will just see a pile of mud and have a intrinsic urge to wrassle?

I prefer being beaten with a stick by a beautiful girl, personally, but yes, many lesbian flirtation displays involve relatively stupid relatively low stakes violence.

Just like many straight courtship displays.

3

Yeah the stupid, silly, and more adventurous flirtation is usually in certain types of space, but when I see it happening I feel so at home. Two girls making eyes at each other over a stupid feat of strength or toughness or whatever else gets me to let my guard down

i know! It's so disrespectful that these places get so much attention, but there are so many! Let's list all the places that gather this outrageous attention!

Renaissance festivals usually have a very lively adults only section in the primitive camping area.

Your renaissance festival has camping? The one in my area is more like a theme park than a LARP.

They might be thinking more Society of Creative Anachronism [SCA], don't know what those guys are up to these days though.

Dame here. It kind of sucks and isn't worth going to more than a couple of times unless you have a giant wad of cash burning a hole in your wallet. They have permanent buildings and all of the acts and shops are the same every year.

14

I used to go to one of those. It has a lot going for it in terms of live acts, but basically it's always the same. I stopped once I realized I was paying for the privilege of attending a Medieval Times themed shopping mall.

Well typically it's a performance for other lesbians not straight guys so if you're in the scene you'll find out...

Did you just assume my gender? cause... what gave it away? Was it the blatant disrespect for anything other than my own needs?

Gender stereotypes get upvotes when you're punching down.

Is it lesbian mud wrestling or is it sparkling same-sex sexy grappling? Trying to figure out if WWE is gay platform wrestling by the same definitions

20

I know a lot of gay pro wrestling fans.

In sumo, Ichiyamamoto literally has a life sized poster of Wakatakakage in his bedroom (they're the same age).

sh.itjust.works

If men are mud wrestling, I say "wack his nards"

If women are mud wrestling, I say "take her top off"

NGL. Everyone's going to cheer when they happen

I'd argue that both go against the spirit of the game.

10

Maybe the nut slapping, but taking off top during mud wrestling is a perfectly reasonable way to get advantage for all genders and non binary

When I was young: “These events seem lame.”

Now: “These events are lame and my back hurts.”

When I was young: “These events seem lame.”

Now: "I should go to Lollapalooza."

10

Then: This isn't as much fun as I thought it would be. Kinda boring.

Now: I'm glad they're having enjoying themselves, and I'm glad I'm not there.

nobody cares if men do it.

man fixes his own car... nobody cares.

woman fixes her own car... articles are written about it.

How is this news? Isn’t this a normal, scheduled event at lollapalooza? I haven’t been in a very long time, but… Isn’t this normal?

Iirc, there’s a whole schedule of mud wrestling events

14
lemmy.world

If the news can run "story about a struggling individual or animal overcoming odds through community support or sheer will, like the sickly squirrel nursed back to health by a man trapped in a collapsed cave."... For the thousandth time...

Let's just say I would rather watch this every year

Comparing lesbian mud wrestling to a sickly squirrel is a bit rude, even in the context of “what might best grab headlines”. I know it was a joke, but still…

Equating people with animals, even indirectly, isn’t nice. It sets the precedent that there is a context where that’s acceptable, when that’s not acceptable in any context.

1

it's not about nice. it's about what gets the most clicks and brings in the most ad revenue.

the context is 'story that makes us the most money gets run'

Yeah, well, I will admit that “lesbians mud wrestling“ is a fucking ton of fun to watch

Lollapalooza or not

5

No, I was simply stating that as fluff pieces go, it's a good one. Fluff pieces can be about many topics, the relative value of the individual subjects is irrelevant.

1

you'd be more shocked at the ticket prices.

$400 retail, $800 on the resale market.

VIP is about 2 grand, higher on resale.

As long as they aren't wearing many clothes, they can go full Mortal Kombat for all I care.

Whereas some were trying to turn this into a more cultured event, others revert to sexism. Bah.

Then you better stay at home and never go outside for the rest of your life if the outside world is too scary for you. Ever heard of viruses?

The rest of us will enjoy some scantily clad ladies fake-fighting in a mud pit.

2

Oof. That's one way to look at it.

How about this, if I'm ever in a situation where I must wrestle anyone, I'll insist we do so in a plastic pool filled with KY Jelly rather than mud.
